everyone knew about the CK thing for a few years.  I had a convo about it two years ago.

PhillyPhreak54

I had no clue about him either

But the Spacey thing has opened the floodgates. So many Hollywood types coming out with their stories now.

ice grillin you

the incredible jessica james - jessica williams from the daily show absolutely dominates this movie....otherwise its a mostly standard albeit good rom com that has some dramatic elements...but man is she surprisingly awesome

8.5/10

wind river - taylor sheridan who wrote sicario wrote and directed this and other than taking place in a complete opposite climate it has the same feel...even has a tough female lead law enforcement officer in it...its about the investigation into the death of a young on an indian reservation....but the movie is much more about the way native americans are treated in this country and life on a reservation than it is about the murder mystery...watch it for the message the beautiful landscapes and the acting....not so much for the plot

Got my tickets to see Star Wars next month. Going to Austin over the holidays to visit my sister and my kids are flying in, so it'll be me, squaw, kids, my sister and her g/f.

Thor/Justice League double feature this weekend. Nerd fap.

This was more or less what I said about it when I saw it like 3 or 4 months ago. Strictly from a plot/story telling perspective, it was ok. Pretty elementary, imo.  It's real impact is that it addresses social/political/cultural issues that are literally plaguing natives today.

SD

Got mine for the 15th, 4pm showing in 3D IMAX with the reclining seats. Theater serves beer too. Pulling my daughter out of school a little early that day.

Ragnarok was decent

Still haven't seen WW but JL is getting brutal reviews. DC really farged up their franchise. They should have continued with the Batman/Dark Knight success and built around that type of story and tone. Instead they went dark and lame.

Sgt PSN

I haven't read a single review on JL. I don't expect much from DC, just be a half decent popcorn flick and show me lots of Gal Gadot thigh.

I'm not seeing Star Wars until the 22nd but we're going to one of those dinner theater type places where you eat a full meal during the show.  No 3D/IMAX stuff though. That shtein gives me vertigo anymore.  Just can't do it.

smeags

fwiw - the critics are ripping JL at 37%, the audience though, has it at 87%.

Critics being douches you say?

Actually, I have almost no interest in seeing it, so in this case, I'll take their word for it and pass.

fake news?

actually i am proud of you for passing on it...baby steps

but in general the audience ratings on most of these movies is due to comic con nerd sheep who will love any of this shtein no matter how unwatchable...its definitely like a cult not totally unlike trump voters who will support him no matter how much he lies or goes against their interests

Rome

I'm patiently waiting for "Darkest Hour" to be released.  I love WWII-era films & biopics in particular, and Churchill is a favorite historical figure of mine.   Gary Oldman is playing Churchill, so it may be amazing or terrible.   Either way, looking forward to it.

I think it's probably more of the opposite, actually.  Legit comic nerds (which I am not, I'm just kind of nerd-ish) are looking for true character authenticity and a sound story.  Over the last 10 years or so there's been a massive influx of fans into the comic book genre who have never so much as read a comic book in their lives.  But being a nerd is the new jock now and they want to get the comic book references they see on big bang theory so they're jumping on board with the movies that have been coming out and they have no actual idea if they're any good or not because they have nothing to compare it to.

To put it in a sports analogy that you might understand, true comic nerds are to comic book movies as havas is to the NFL/Eagles.  When havas watches a game he's watching way more of what's going on pre snap and post snap instead of just following the ball.  There's a certain level of understanding going on there.  As much as you love the Eagles, you know when they suck.  Meanwhile, most of the audiences that give every comic move 12 thumbs up are South Jerz with Tim Tebow jerseys who just want to scream and yell and think that the Eagles are just the bestest team ever and can't comprehend the possibility that when the Eagles are 4-12 it's because they suck.
