sean penn was actually terrible...he put on a clinic in overacting...he was so over the top is was comical

im not sure people were miscast as much as the story/script was just brutal

The guy Penn's character is based on, Huey Long, was an extremely flamboyant and overbearing guy.  If you think Penn overacted, it probably means he did a really good job.

ice grillin you

i know this....just as i knew in i am sam he was playing a retard...and trust me he overacted in both

you can play a flamboyant character and still overact...just ask christopher walken

The book is fantastic.  Should be required reading for anyone who gives a shtein about U.S. politics.

But I think I'm repeating myself.
I second. I've read it at least twice.

Bah.  If anything, Walken underacts.  He plays himself in everything he does, which is why he is so awesome.

in his good roles he does....but too many times hes gone over the top to the point that he becoems a parody of himself

You told me your favorite was "The Cutting Edge" and that D.B. Sweeney is downright dreamy.

i assume youre not counting comedies like slapshot or caddyshack as sports movies?

i really need to give up this movie business...or just realize that i...not everyone else....must have the worst tastes ever...because hoosiers is one of my most hated movies and i fell asleep during the natural

SunMo

how can you hate Hoosiers and fall asleep during the Natural?

and no comedy can ever be considered best movie ever...and this is from a guy who loves comedies

A movie about a whole team of white guys playing basketball can't be the best by default.

Wingspan

For me, a sports movie can not be "Scripted," meaning non-biographical. If it is made up, ala The Natural, Field of Dreams, etc...it's not a sports movie. It's a drama with a sports backdrop.

not sure about best but a comedy certainly can be better than a melodrama...and this from a guy who doesnt like comedies

and when it comes to sports movies which is a genre that for the most part is horrible a comedy certainly can be (and probably is) the best

fast break is classic too

there is no way that you can make an argument for Caddyshack (which is an awesome movie) being better than either The Natural or Hoosiers
