You realize that most people here generally enjoy all the same movies you do, we just happen to enjoy some other shtein, too, right?  Stop trying so hard to always be anti-whatever's popular and just enjoy something for what it is.  Or don't enjoy it and let others enjoy it without your negative commentary.

Hahaha.  Yeah good luck with this, Sassy.

I know. It's an exercise in futility.  But holy farg, besides Republicans, I've never seen someone so eager to shtein on other people's good times.

whiplash is one of the most overrated movies in recent memory...apologies to legendz...i think it might be his favorite movie ever

Hah not favorite movie ever but definitely favorite movie that year.  Loved it.  I think people can come away with two entirely different takes on whether the movie is a triumph or tragedy.  Last scene is gold.  (Last scene is also what makes LLL good - whatever it is about chazelle and my tastes, he aces final scenes with me).

(Favorite movie is probably Reservoir Dogs).

But if I was going to bash other people about them, I'd probably give them crap over liking Green Lantern, that Nic Cage Ghost Rider movie, or some other 80-IQ summer blockbuster, not a movie sitting at 93% on Rotten Tomatoes that seems to escape many of the trappings of the genre.

you'll be relieved to know that you'd be hard pressed to even find a nerd that thought either one of those two movies were anything other than crap.

Squaw channeled her inner-MA yesterday and wanted to go see Get Out.  It's about as cookie cutter as it gets for a suspense/thriller type movie that isn't very suspenseful or thrilling.  Somehow had made-for-tv writing and production values on a big screen budget.  No idea how it's got 99% on RT.  Pretty sure this is the first movie in it's genre where the black guy doesn't die.  If Denzel (Fallen) or Will Smith (I Am Legend) couldn't pull it off, I just figured it'd never happen in my lifetime.

i havent seen it im going tonight actually but its a biting satire on race in america and the fact that you didnt mention that anywhere in your review tells me why you probably didnt enjoy it

Rome

It's actually a hack job on white liberal guilt.  Far be it from me to dissuade anyone from seeing it, though.

rjs246

Peele has been using the phrase "social thriller" to describe it as he clearly intends for it to be social commentary first and horror/thriller second. It's high on my list of movies to see, mainly out of a sense of curiosity at how this comedic sketch actor will do at social commentary.
Is rjs gonna have to choke a bitch?

I've seen black people saying they were more scared than their white friends...tells you how good the movie was at what it was trying to do.

perhaps you could explain sd's reasons for "disliking" it as well since you seem to be so in tune with other peoples minds

There's the whole "black dude at a house full of white people" thing going on that is pretty much every brotha's worst nightmare.  There's some humor in hearing people tell him how much they love Obama and Tiger, because that's obviously what white who don't spend much time around black people say to show how down and not racist they are, but the movie itself (as a suspense/thriller) just didn't do much for me.

I don't know exactly what this movie is trying to be.  Satire?  Scary?  Suspenseful?  Creepy?  Thrilling?  It kind of hits on the satire but misses with everything else.

You think King Of Queens is the height of comedic excellence.  The last book you read was probably Curious George.  And the funniest thing about this is you're exactly the sort of self-loathing wannabe white liberal the movie is satirizing.  Again, enjoy the farg out of it even if the message flies completely over your head.

ice grillin you

you have no clue what the movie is about if you think it's making fun of progressives

lol you didn't even know a black guy made it

go plop in your recliner eat some stew on a tv stand and watch a comic book movie marathon

leave this stuff to the 95 corridor northeast white guilters

the most shocking part of the movie was how good joe madden was...if he ever decides to stop managing baseball he has a career as an actor waiting for him
