Saw two movies recently on flights home:

Where the wild things are: About 20 minutes into the movie, I couldn't help but think "This whole thing could have been avoided if the kids mom would smack him every now and then".  Was hoping that it would be a kids movie, like Shrek, were there are little bits and pieces for adults to enjoy. Unfortunately, it was a typical kids movie: scenes were either really corny or didn't make sense.  The way it was made, however, was pretty impressive.

Up In the Air: Saw this last Thursday on my return trip.  Not sure if it was the complementary cheap booze, but I actually really enjoyed this movie.  Going in, I thought it would be the typical Hollywood romantic script: Successful business man meets girl, 30-45 minutes in realizes being alone is bad and spends the rest of the movie trying to make up for it.  Ok, so there was a little bit of that, but the movie wasn't really about that at all.  Since I average 150k miles a year, I got a kick out of the travel related stuff, both true (Avoiding old people and children in security, semi heated debates over different travel companies, road ass, etc) as well as stuff that was a bit too Hollywood (the # of miles he flew lifetime, at his age, given the # of miles he claims he flies a year is mathematically impossible to do with a single airline, the hertz employee shouting "you forgot your gold card!" (they never ask for it), getting road ass by giving women a hard time about their choice of points programs).  Loved Jason Bateman in his role.  Anna Kendrick fit her role quite well (if you keep typing with "purpose" like that, your hands will end up more f'd than mine from RMD), but when she did the whole boyfriend broke up with her over text message scene, her acting was on par with someone taking their second improv class.

I also saw some french film on Netflix streaming about lesbian strippers.  I didn't catch the plot, but I give it 5 stars.
I'm not from Philly but some say I'm blunt.

I saw Where the Wild things Are when we were flying, it was visually impressive, but without weed i coudlnt watch it.

Also saw the Invention of Lying, not funny

Watched "Stoned" the story of Brian Jones.  Tons of titties, too much hog but the titties evened it out.  Good look back on the life and death of Jones

Agreed.  The very first scene with the wild things, where tony soprano was destroying homes and ranting about something ("See, he gets it!"), the movie lost me and I took my headphones off.  Put them back on later in the movie two more times, but that lasted all of five minutes.  I'll just add it to my list of "reasons not to have children".

I liked the Invention of Lying.  Partially because I'm a fan of Ricky Gervais and partially because I'm a cynic and got a kick out of the whole "man in the sky" angle.  Its not a laugh out loud, low brow, Hangover type comedy, but more (for a lack of a better term) "British" funny.

I'm guessing you fly United

i was very disappointed in where the wild things are.   the kid definitely needed a punch in the mouth.  and the whore mother needed a fleshpop up her ass.  but that's another movie altogether.

Which is why she was so mad when he threw that temper tantrum.  Kept her from getting the buttsex.

Took the wife and daughter to see Alice in Wonderland. Classic Tim Burton and I thought it was fantastic. My three year old didn't say a word the entire movie, which is a feat in and of itself. The special effects were top notch as well as the makeup. Always loved the way Burton and be dark and haunting while not coming off as scary for kids and the like, and the movie never seemed to take itself seriously, got a few good laughs out it.

The Rocker -- an OK movie if you're a fan of Rainn Wilson but half the time you think you're watching Jack Black in School of Rock 2

rjs246

So wait, does Rainn Wilson have fans?
Is rjs gonna have to choke a bitch?

Let them eat bootstraps.

Outside of people that watch The Office....probably not

wall e - really boring at first but then it picks up. a little convoluted social commentary to hammer the point home to 5 year olds but still a pretty great movie and bonerific love story between two robots. also whats the deal with the live action stuff? so everything on a screen is live action? like this universe is in computer animation but yet they watch hello dolly and fred williard stuff in real people time? explain. 4/5

donnie brasco - this had to be the last role pacino didnt mail in, maybe save for any given sunday, but a good mob story. not the typical godfather, goodfellas type stuff. they did a better job in humanizing the terrible human being pacinos character was in 2 hours than the sopranos did in 7 seasons. 4/5
Zero hour, Michael. It's the end of the line. I'm the firstborn. I'm sick of playing second fiddle. I'm always third in line for everything. I'm tired of finishing fourth. Being the fifth wheel. There are six things I'm mad about, and I'm taking over.

are you saying that you thought pacino was good/solid/great in any given sunday?

he was average. depended on the scene and probably the call time for shooting. like the pre-game speech he gave was classic, but the stuff with jessie spano was obviously pacino showing up hung over 3 minutes before they were rolling.

it was just slow before the white robot showed up. we got the point of what earth was but it dragged on for an extra 10-20 minutes.

maybe it's just because i think that was one of the absolute worst movies ever made, but i thought he was awful in that movie.  for starters, he was horribly miscast in that role.  but to top it off, at no point during the movie did he even act or sound like anything that even remotely resembled a football coach.  not his fault that he sucked because he's just not suited for that kind of role.  he really doesn't have a lot of range when it comes to acting.  i dunno...i guess it looked like he was really trying so i guess you can't really say that he "mailed it in" for that movie.  it's just a movie he never should have been part of in the first place.
