Leatherface is very loosely based on the serial killer Ed Gein.  That's about the only thing close to true events you will find in Texas Chainsaw massacre.

so that thing at the very end wasn't real footage?

What do you think?

um, no?

of course, the question was more legitimate before you explained that the movie has just about nothing to do with real life events.  at the time, i thought the movie was a little bit more fact based and found the end of movie footage to be somewhat believable.

well, your not alone.  it's a big reason why the movie is so popular.

and IGY,  why do you think it's taking liberties to say Buffalo Bill or Leatherface are very loosely based on Ed Gein?   It's not by coincidence that they have similar serial killer traits of Gein.  It was intentional on both accounts.   There are other flicks that share traits intentionally too.  Like Psycho and House of 1000 corpses etc.

The original Texas Chainsaw Massacre is a sweet movie.  Haven't caught the newer one.

if only House of 1000 corpses had picked up the trait of being a decent or good movie.

no other horror/gore flick bored me more than that film did.

That and the fact that it didn't happen in Texas.

Is Wolf Creek out yet? I wonder how closely related to actual events it is, and what those actual events are.

Wingspan

actually TCM/Buffalo bill is a little closer to Ed Gein in that he did wear the skin of his victims.

there actually is a movie directly based on gein. it's not bad, not great either.

IMDB says
QuoteBased on the infamous "Backpacker Murders" committed along the Hume Highway by Ivan Milat between 1989 and 1992.

My Aussie friend said it's a crap movie. She said the first hour is spent watching the characters get drunk, and the second hour they get killed and you don't care. I know you didn't ask for a secondhand review, but take it anyway.

I'm so shocked you know somebody from Australia the anger from a shteinastic second hand review subsided.

Did she mention anything about naked women? I can't say it enough - a little T&A in a bad movie goes a long way.

General_Failure

The word tits appeared in her review, but no mention of nudity or sex, especially not lesbian sex. In fact, there may only be two characters in the whole movie.

Sounds like you need to ask her some probing questions.

Alright, King Kong review time.  I will not go into depth because i'm not good at writing these reviews.

Anyway, let me tell you that about an hour of the movie is spent on the damn ship.  If i wanted to watch Titanic, i could've rented it.

I'll skip to Kong.  Andy Serkis did an awesome job with movement and making this look real.  You really forget that Kong is animated and doesn't even speak.  He seems real and the action between him and dinosaur is amazing.  He is all about protecting Naomi Watts.

I don't want to give anything away even though you already know the story.  Jack Black is friggin awesome as Denham.  He was perfect for the role.  I don't like Adrien Brody, so i hated him as Driscoll.

Bottom line is, once Kong appears on screen, the real action begins and you are just watching him mainly.  Of course, Naomi Watts is hard to ignore.

I guess i'd have to give it  :cfhead :cfhead :cfhead :cfhead 1/2
