In truth this whole conversation is retarded.

You could pretty much start with this in any thread.

Napoleon Dynamite is awesome, and i love when rubes like Munson complain about it for not being funny.  we get it dummy, you don't understand if there isn't a punch line or someone falling down.

I haven't seen Animal House listed anywhere and Fletch was only mentioned in passing. You all have brainaids.

this.

those movies still hold up incredibly well.
Zero hour, Michael. It's the end of the line. I'm the firstborn. I'm sick of playing second fiddle. I'm always third in line for everything. I'm tired of finishing fourth. Being the fifth wheel. There are six things I'm mad about, and I'm taking over.

Superbad as one of the top 10 funniest comedies ever?  No

Superbad was great. And my list wasn't the top 10 funniest comedies ever. It was the top ten-ish funniest comedies ever to me as of what was in my brain this morning.

In truth this whole conversation is retarded. Comedies, more than any other genre, rely wholly on personal taste and mood. Sometimes, Happy Gilmore is the funniest shtein I've ever seen, sometimes Napolean Dynamite or Super Troopers or Animal House or Fletch or Wedding Crashers or Office Space is at the top of the list. There are are too many comedies that I've enjoyed for wildly different reasons to ever put a generic 'best comedies' list together.

this is mostly true.  there are some movies that i watch and depending on my mood, i might laugh hard when i watch and then other times not as much.  the ones i listed make me laugh every time regardless of the mood i'm in though, which is why they're my favorites.

Even though IGY's overall movie opinions are usually terrible, he's right...your taste in comedies really sucks.

Trading Places isn't even Eddie Murphy's best comedy. Wedding Crashers is better than 7 of the movies on your list, and you fail incredibly bad for having Napoleon Dynamite on there...farging terrible man.

i prefer comedies that use some intelligent writting rather than relying on farting and gay jokes.

See?  That's funny!

yeah, it sounds dumb to say that i like comedies that have some intelligent writing behind it's humor rather than relying on cheap jokes like a lot of movies do today but animal house basically helped lay the foundation that a lot of movies today try and imitate.  so they make the list because they're one of the originals and not a poorly made duplicate.

SunMo

i saw a movie this past weekend I thought would suck hard but was ok, which is always a bonus.  it was My Best Friend's Girl with Dane Cook, Kate Hudson, and Jason Biggs

it probably helped that it was the unrated version, but there were multiple cvnts uttered, tits showed, and overall good salty language to help deal with the stupid plot.

i know it's cool to hate Dane Cook, but i think he's funny and he was fine in this.

Why isn't Old School mentioned in this conversation.

Maybe I'll just do that...

Because for most people it falls into the good but not great category. Rating comedies is idiotic. I loved Knocked Up and The Royal Tennenbaums. phattymatt, one of my closest friends and someone who has an almost identical sense of humor didn't particularly like either of them. Comedies are so subjective that rating them makes absolutely no sense.
Is rjs gonna have to choke a bitch?

Let them eat bootstraps.

I agree. I also was not a big fan of Knocked Up. I also agree its cool to hate Dane Cook. Take away his yelling for emphasis in his comedy and he becomes the average joe comedian.

dane cook can only aspire to one day become an average comedian.  he's a douche and the best role i've ever seen him in was as the brother in dan in real life......which i thought he played fairly well.

turns out when dane cook isn't trying to be funny, he's tolerable at the very least.

Napoleon Dynamite is terrible, maybe 3 laugh out loud scenes the entire movie. Talk about a "dumb comedy"....TINA YOU FAT LARD. Yeah, hilarious. He said it in his funny napoleon voice. Sweet. No. Look his uncle is throwing a football. etc and so on....not funny.

And Romey no one is hating on Trading Places...just that it shouldn't be on ANYONE'S top 10 unless they also include Coming to America on there because that is far and away the funnier movie. Trading Places was good, but it might not even be his second funniest movie.

Wedding Crashers and Superbad would make my top 10. So would Christmas Vacation....but all in all rusty is right....comedy favorites are generally pretty subjective to tastes. Except terrible ones like napoleon dynamite.

perhaps you could explain sd's reasons for "disliking" it as well since you seem to be so in tune with other peoples minds
