i've been tired of will ferrel for quite a few years now but his role in wedding crashers was money.  if anything, it actually helped save the movie.....which btw, was funny but still kind of meh at the same time.

my top 10 favorite comedies in no particular order:

1.   blazing saddles - hilarious in parts but overall incredibly uneven
2.   caddyshack - one of the goats
3.   trading places - awful
4.   monty python and the holy grail - aged horribly...still solid tho
5.   super troopers - what?
6.   major league - never seen
7.   national lampoon's x-mas vacation - og is 1 billion times better...not even in the top 1000 comedies ever
8.   napolean dynomite - good movie
9.   dirty work - never heard of
10. police academy - terrible

i will tell you what is in the top ten...your taste in comedies in the all time worst top ten
i can take a phrase thats rarely heard...flip it....now its a daily word

igy gettin it done like warrick

im the board pharmacist....always one step above yous

Even though IGY's overall movie opinions are usually terrible, he's right...your taste in comedies really sucks.

Trading Places isn't even Eddie Murphy's best comedy. Wedding Crashers is better than 7 of the movies on your list, and you fail incredibly bad for having Napoleon Dynamite on there...farging terrible man.

perhaps you could explain sd's reasons for "disliking" it as well since you seem to be so in tune with other peoples minds

Sgt PSN

not sure how you can really hate on trading places.  eddie murphy and dan akroyd are money in that.  doesn't mean it should be one of everyone's favorites, but i've never heard of anyone not liking it.

dirty work is a norm macdonald movie from mid/late 90's.  co stars artie lang, chris farley and chevy chase.  in actuality it's probably one of the worst movies ever made but i love norm macdonald and the movie just cracks me the farg up.

how have you never seen major league?

police academy was great too.  they just killed it by making way too may of them.

i prefer comedies that use some intelligent writting rather than relying on farting and gay jokes.

somehow i completely forgot about animal house though so swap that out with police academy.

Munson

Yeah because Wedding Crashers was farting and gay jokes.
Napoleon Dynamite sucked hard. I may have laughed twice throughout that entire movie.

Wedding Crashers was overhyped although Will was good in it (and I'm a Will fan even though his movies usually stink)...

Saw Tropic Thunder today.  A couple of "ha ha that was funny in a dumb way" moments but overall it wasn't that great...

Feva

When I hear people putting Wedding Crashers up there with the top comedies ever and all that, I honestly have to wonder what the farg they were looking at.  I mean, I thought it was pretty funny... and I enjoyed it... but I really didn't see what made it some sort of all-time great.

...and Munson is dead on.  Coming To America is Eddie's top comedy by far.  That... is an all-time great.

When Munson & IGY agree on something you know the world's about to end.  And who the farg disses Trading Places?  Jesus...  :-D

And LOL at MDS clinging to ignorance as if it's some sort of quality trait.  Refusing to acknowledge the merits of empirically quality entertainment because it was made a couple of generations ago is clownish on an epic level.

I haven't seen Animal House listed anywhere and Fletch was only mentioned in passing. You all have brainaids.

It's a good thing you added that, or I would have to beat the shtein out of you repeatedly -- again.

Animal House is the funniest movie ever, and Wedding Crashers isn't even the funniest movie of the past five years.  Maybe Top 10...

See?  That's funny!
The drawback to marital longevity is your wife always knows when you're really interested in her and when you're just trying to bury it.

Zanshin

As far as comedies go, I'm not going to put enough thought into it to do the top ten of all time...but I will give a top-ish ten off the top of my head, in no particular order.

Office Space
The Sting
Planes, Trains and Automobiles
Naked Gun
Vacation
Caddyshack
Blues Brothers
Superbad
Groundhog Day
Fast Times at Ridgemont High

Animal House, Fletch, Christmas Vacation could have easily ended up in there, too.

rjs246

In truth this whole conversation is retarded. Comedies, more than any other genre, rely wholly on personal taste and mood. Sometimes, Happy Gilmore is the funniest shtein I've ever seen, sometimes Napolean Dynamite or Super Troopers or Animal House or Fletch or Wedding Crashers or Office Space is at the top of the list. There are are too many comedies that I've enjoyed for wildly different reasons to ever put a generic 'best comedies' list together.
