Crier of the week: Terrorists of all backgrounds. Tantrums are selfish acts by children; extortion and murder disguised as fervor for a cause are both selfish and just plain evil. "We're gonna blow up things and kill people until we get our way!" There's a convincing argument, huh?

I was almost late to work this morning waiting for this 'big' announcement. Looks like I'll be getting satelite radio in 15 months.

Can Stern be uncensored on the new format?

Correct.  It will probably be a pay station, just like Opie & Anthony on XM.

Opie & Anthony > Stern
XM > Sirius

Are there really that many people who will pay for talk radio?  You couldn't pay me to listen to some of it, honestly.

dpierce

You may be surprised...I'm sure that there are millions of people who would listen to Stern (or a number of talk show hosts) via satellite, especially in the places where a show wasn't previously available.

Oh, I'm sure I'd be surprised.  They must have business models to estimate those things....I just don't get it.  I'll add that to the ever-growing list of things I don't get ;).

I read somewhere that the current Sirius subscriber base is about 600k and the current Stern listening base is about 12 mill, so this could certainly change the balance of power a little in satellite radio.

That said, O & A always has be pissing myself laughing, while I find genuine laughs from Stern few and far between, mostly because his ego is 10 times bigger than his sense of humor.  I respect him as a pioneer in talk radio, but he's just not as funny as he was when he was younger.

I blame the FCC. His show was better 5-10 years ago with Jackie, but he's still the man.

i think Sirius went up 10 points on the market today.

More like $0.56, but since it started the day at $3.35, $0.56 ain't bad (roughly a 17% gain).

General_Failure

This is all I need. First the never-ending plugs for Tony Hawk's radio show, now they'll pimp Stern like there's no tomorrow. As if anyone listening to Sirius that gives a farg about him doesn't already know.

The man. The myth. The legend.

General_Failure

Damnit! They've already started doing it. :'(
