I listened to the Andy Dick roast on Stern this morning. Much worse was said by some of the comics doing the roasting. It's kind of hard to figure out why the focus randomly seems to show up from time to time.

Seems some people are getting confused about my stance on the topic, so here:

1) O&A were suspended by XM, not fined or charged by the FCC, hence there is no censorship issue.  They work for XM, XM felt O&A were doing something against XM policy.  End of story.

2) IMHO, O&A think that going for the gross-out and working blue == talent.  Not so.  O&A fans are probably the same people who paid money to see Jackass - The Movie.  ;)

3) I grew out of listening to Howard in the late 90's, but he's still better than O&A.

IMHO, a good morning show is one like Tommy & Rumble on WNOR in Norfolk, VA.  Hilariously funny and smart jokes and parody songs, holding fishing tournaments in front of PETA HQ, etc.  But they almost never have to hit the 'bleep' button.  Still wouldn't let my kids listen in, though!  ;D

They should have done more whacky things, like maybe sex in an elementary school.

farg WYSP.  I hated the Free FM shtein, but then actually got into Matt and Huggy and Kidd Chris.  O & A just cant turn the clock back to where they were, i still listen but its nowhere close to being what it was.  Kidd Chris has been butchered by this play music shtein, i cant wait till his contract is up and he goes to satellite

Dumped by WYSP

Their morning ratings were awful, 11th in the market last I saw. Nobody can touch Preston and Steve right now. My Sirius subscription ran out and I don't miss it as much as I thought. Sterns show was funny, the music stations were great, and I love the NFL station, but overall I can think of better things to spend my money on.

SunMo

there were many factors that led to terrible ratings, most of which being they have such a strong following in Philly that most of their fans (myself included) don't dick around with normal radio and get XM to listen to them.

anybody who seriously listens to Preston and Steve should be castrated, they are the radio equivalent of Friends

Highest they were ranked in a weak morning market in a city they were once popular was 9th which is piss poor. WYSP is in serious trouble. Greater Media (WMMR, WPEN etc.) was in negotiations to get the Eagles but they wound up re-upping their deal with WYSP. Stern brought them to their knees when he left and P & S filled the void as far as Philly ratings go.

SunMo

REPEAT....

they are huge in philly, almost as big as new york, and most of their fans listen on XM...it's not that hard to figure out

All their fans went with them to XM? Doubtful, otherwise XM would have more subscribers and why would WYSP even bother with them? Their loyal fanbase is what's keeping them afloat because they don't have the same appeal to a wide audience they once had. Its not like they had some success on YSP, they were a huge bust. I'm sure they're ripping YSP now and its all their fault and they're the big bad guys. I know you're a fan and probably think I'm just downing them cause I like Stern. Truth is I've only listened to Stern's show a few times in the last 6 months. Now that my subscription has expired I'm done with him.

SunMo

the past two summers they've sold out the Tweeter center for their comedy show...how can they do that if they only have the 11th rated morning show in philly?

The Tweeter has a capacity of what like 20,000? Like I said, they have a loyal fanbase (such as yourself) that's keeping them afloat. Good for them, I wish them nothing but success. I like Jimmy Norton, saw him live and caught his stand up act on HBO a few weeks ago.

SunMo

nothing is "keeping them afloat", they are doing fine on XM, they are doing fine in many cities on FM, they just didn't do what they thought they would do in Philly on WYSP, one of reasons being the loyal fanbase you just described
