they are at least three years away from being a sb contender and thats if they dont regress in the next couple years which is possible with the age on the offensive line...thats of course also depenent ont hem hitting on their draft picks and free agents which is far from a guarantee

i dont consider that to be all that close but maybe some do

Tier two teams win Superbowls, the Giants did it twice in the last decade.

I'm super high on Wentz, and I don't post here enough to know the general feeling on the forum about him, but I think he's going to be a top 5 QB in the league for a decade. If I'm right about that, the Eagles will be in a great spot for a long time. Getting the QB taken care of is the hardest thing to do in sports, but once you do, the hard part is taken care of.

To address smeags' question though, that is the biggest concern. Do they have the guys in place to fix the needs appropriately? Definitely a concern. You gotta hope Joe Douglas is really good at his job and brings something to the table. Also, stop allowing your coaches to dictate moves. It didn't work with Chip Kelly, and it didn't work when they decided to go out and sign all of Schwartz's zesty Buffalo Bills players.

wentz seems like the real deal and i have confidence in him being a franchise qb and everything that comes with that...i just dont think those glory days are right around the corner...we are talking 3-5 years down the road before they can become an elite team

You may end up being right, especially if they keep having awful drafts... and that's ultimately what this will all be dependent upon. You are only as good as you draft, and if they bomb the 2017 draft, they will struggle again next season.

But with how the NFL today is structured, there are no old Cowboys dynasties or Niners dynasties. The Detroit Lions could conceivably win the Superbowl this season. I mean, I wouldn't bet on them, but they have a shot. My point is the Eagles don't have to climb this massive mountain to become a contender. Look at the teams they are competing with. There are a bunch of teams currently better than the Eagles right now, but when you watch, say, Seattle play... do they really impress you? Are you blown away by them to the point where you go man, gonna take 5 years to catch those guys. That's the same team that lost to the awful Rams and got annihilated by the Packers.

Unless you draft terribly, if it takes 5 years to catch Seattle, Dallas, GB, Detroit, etc then something seriously got farged up along the way.

i think three years is realistic to become one of the superbowl favorites

the one great thing about having the qb is that while they certainly need to upgrade the weaponry if wentz is the real thing they dont have to to have a great line...dallas had a dominant line in place thats allowed a 4th round pick to flourish the eagles in theory shouldnt need that if they have the great qb...of course they cant allow it to fall off a cliff but they also shouldnt need to spend tons of time over a period of years building a great OL...i would love to have dallas' line but with a franchise qb in wentz it gives you some leeway in that area

Howie is picking the "talent" and a baptist high school head coach is in charge of the team on the field.

Seriously.

QB Eagles

The Chargers have had a really good franchise QB for like the last 12 years and we're talking 10 months after one of the worst 2015 QBs won the Super Bowl.

Franchise QB is the most important piece you can have but it's still first and foremost a team sport.

The good news for the Eagles is that parity is more supreme than ever; even the best teams in the NFL have multiple significant missing pieces, which definitely was not always the case.

Rome

Exactly why they should quit farging around and get his replacement in there now.  Also - of the  22 starters at least 15 need to be upgraded just to be truly competitive.  There's no quick fixes coming either so that suggestion needs to stop.

I want Doug fired after the season, but if you want a silver lining in him staying, here it is:

It will probably be another year of weak candidates. If the Eagles wait another year, it's possible John Harbaugh may be out in Baltimore, or Jim Harbaugh may be willing to leave Michigan. The next coach is probably going to be here for a little while. If they decide to pull the plug on Doug early, I can't see them doing that yet again with another coach after doing it twice in a row with Doug and Chip. So I'd rather have a vacancy when there are hot candidates available.

I'd actually love Josh McDaniels, but there's no way he's coming here if Howie is still here.

So where the hell are you?  We have about 15 of us who post regularly.  We need 16.

I would love that!  I think McDaniels is ready to give HC another shot and would be successful.  Denver was a complete nightmare for him.  BUT you are so right, if Pencil Dick is around no way he comes here.

If I were him, I'd be more worried about the target he's got hanging on his back now.
