Rome

It had two absolutely classic seasons and then it started to slide.  That corresponds with your timeline, IGY.

The Johnny Cakes storyline was Chase's way of saying farg you as loudly as he could but the fans still wanted more.   I didn't because I had moved on already but a lot of longtime fans couldn't let it go, so Chase really bitchslapped them with the ending.   I dont think anyone in the history of the medium treated their fans with more outright contempt than Chase did especially during those last two seasons.

MDS

it was more a stalling hey lets crank out more episodes and make more money kind of thing than a farg you to the fans

the ending was though
Zero hour, Michael. It's the end of the line. I'm the firstborn. I'm sick of playing second fiddle. I'm always third in line for everything. I'm tired of finishing fourth. Being the fifth wheel. There are six things I'm mad about, and I'm taking over.

what else do you need to see out of these characters

I'm still waiting to see Meadow's penis. I'll bet that thing is massive.
Is rjs gonna have to choke a bitch?

Let them eat bootstraps.

The only way a movie would have worked is if they didn't wrap up the NY/Phil NJ/Tony fued and made a movie about the two families knocking each other off. And even with that I don't see how it would work, the Sopranos was made for TV and not the type of series - especially in the mafia genre - that would translate to the big screen.

I finally finished the Sopranos. Overall it was a good show that was sometimes great and sometimes mediocre. Aside from Tony I didn't like many of the other characters on the show. I was hoping Carmella would get knocked off because her character annoyed the shtein out of me. Didn't really like season 6 or the finale episode, but I thought the final scene was brillant. I can just imagine all the hardcore Sopranos fans flipping out when the screen went to black, because people need such immediate justification of what's on screen without giving the scene any thought. Just from a basic film class I had I was left with the interpretation that he was dead. When they show Tony, then show his POV of watching people walking into the restaurant, then the last scene when the POV was to be shown of Meadow walking in it went to black...harkening back on the conversation that he and Bobby had on the boat.

I also finally finished watching it today  OK, it was the A&E version but I never watched a whole season while it was on HBO.  I really enjoyed it.  Agree with MDS from an earlier post that by the end I was ready for Tony to get capped.  He was just way to obnoxious.  Also glad to see Christopher go.  What a little prick.
