NORTHBROOK, Ill. -- Roger Goodell was chosen as the NFL's next commissioner Tuesday, succeeding the man who groomed him for the job, Paul Tagliabue.

The 47-year-old Goodell worked his way from a public relations intern to perhaps the most powerful job in sports. He was elected on the fifth ballot among the league's 32 owners.

ESPN.com's Len Pasquarelli reports he was voted in unanimously on the fifth ballot. At that point, the last remaining contender was Gregg Levy, who served as the league's outside counsel.

I can't say much about him, but Tags did a great job, and this is who Tags wanted, so this choice is fine by me.
Calling it right on the $ since day one.
Just pointing laughing, and living it up while watching the Miami Heat stink it up.

QuoteGoodell has talked about helping visiting teams in noisy stadiums by putting radios in all the offensive players' helmets. It's too late to help the Giants today in Seattle, where they had 11 false starts last year. Goodell said he "loves the fact that home fans can influence the game. I'm not trying to take that away," but he wants teams to "execute your offense. Be able to go in and play at the highest possible level." But how do you accomplish one goal without eliminating the other?

From Gary Meyers' article in the NYDN today.

What a ridiculous idea. Taking away a homefield advantage? Stupid.

Just another ploy to help offenses by the NFL. I hope this never passes.

The new commish is overreaching already. :boo

That would absolutely suck.

If opposing offenses want to "perform at their highest level", they should do just that from the start and take the crowd out by themselves.

Personally, I think that offenses are best executed during the first 35 minutes of the game. The last 25 minutes don't really matter anyway. Is there any way the Commish can shorten games to 2 and a half quarters? The Eagles would be the bestiest team ever!
Is rjs gonna have to choke a bitch?

Street rules. Seven Mississippi count, and only one blitz per possession.

Goodell getting started on the wrong foot with this idea.
