are they a couple years away from playing for the NFC crown again?  no, they can do that next year if the offseason goes well.

This is true, however, that defense sure needs to tighten up for us to get back there no matter how healthy the offense is.

That is a failry accurate take on the Eagles from Scout.com.  Other than lumping Sheldon in with Lito last year.

sheldon was as guilty as lito was. lito just gets noticed more.

I disagree.  So lets argue about it for the next 30 pages of this thread.  go.

no doubt, that's why i say they can do it the offseason goes well.  i just thought your views of a .500 team next year were a little bleak, that's all.  :)

Seattle being in the Super Bowl reminds me of that 42-0 demolition at home, so I guess that's why I'm a little pessimistic right now!  ;)

Seattle returning 17 INTs for touchdowns doesn't happen with McNabb under center. The team from the second half of this season isn't going to have many similarities with the team that hits the field next year.
Is rjs gonna have to choke a bitch?

RB Ryan Moats is a similar style runner to Westbrook, versatile and elusive on the perimeter but not as effective between the tackles. It's a long shot that he'll ever reach the status of Westbrook and appears headed for a backup type career.

CB Lito Sheppard , hurt by the lack of a consistent pass rush, got beat much too often and must play better in 2006 or risk falling down the depth chart. The same is true for Sheldon Brown . Both players should be hoping and praying that the Eagles can find a way to put together a better pass rush and take some of the heat off of the secondary.
Tito get me some tissue!!
Moats not as effective as Westbrook between the tackles? :-D Yeah, right.
Sheldon didnt get beat "much too often." He gave up like 6 TDs. Its hard to put up the same season when you only give up 1 TD. (first year starting)

The key for the eagles success is around both lines. The O-Line has to create lanes for the the running backs to run. Did you see the size of some of the wholes Shaun Alexander ran through against Carolina? Mahe would look like a superstar running behind that kind of blocking. Allow Westbrook to break into the secondary like that and he's money. Maybe Westbrook can run between the tackles with good blocking. Considering his strength is speed to the outside a blocking full back and TE is kind of key for that to work too.

The D-Line just has to get pressure. The Eagles can't depend on the blitze for pressure. Teams will figure that out. Give a QB time and he'll sit back their and make your best players look like shtein. If the Eagles can get a LB through free agency then maybe they draft another big man this year....

....and yes I was kidding about the TE in the 1st round.

I'm very much in favor or Jackson taking over the Center spot. Fraley needs too much help from the guards in pass protection, and gets pushed around on running plays. It gets tiresome watching Westbrook run into his back for a 1 yard gain.

As much as that game sucked, I forgot about it not long after it was over.  That wasn't the Eagles you were watching in that game.  Like rjs said... 3 defensive TD's don't happen if only you put McNabb back in there.  Do we win?  With the way we were playing... probably not, but we sure as hell don't get shutout.

Even with all the injuries, distractions, etc... the Eagles were only really out of 2 games.  A few things go differently, we could've been 10-6 instead of 6-10.  If the front 7 gets some playmakers added, the defense becomes dominant again... and we're pretty close to where we were last season.

The team from the second half of the season had a few decent games as far as running the ball. There were also a couple of games where it was completely shut down, but that's really what you would expect with Scramblin Mike and a patchwork line out there.
