its dope when you donate to them they show you the town and the progross of the well from start to finish...so it makes you feel great and helps real people in real ways on a large scale basis...unlike money being wasted on als

OK except that, since you seem to be incapable of having fun with this or any conversation, what you're doing is creating a straw man to attack because you don't like the method by which this money is being delivered.

Children dying of thirst and / or hunger is not being impacted in the slightest by the ALS ice bucket challenge. It's not like this stupid corny shtein is taking food or water or money or resources away from any cause that you deem more worthy. If you're so up in arms about people directing their money to one cause over another, create your own awful attention whoring challenge and do something about it. Don't piss and moan about people donating to a cause just because you think there are other causes more worthy. OF COURSE there are other causes more worthy, depending on your perspective. Your need to whine about people doing shtein on social media is devouring your ability to think about this rationally.

yeah but the point is the als money is helping NOBODY

and im not sure id describe this bucket thing as unselfish...its people pouring water on their heads so they dont have to give money to a cause...and even a lot of the people who do give money to als after doing it are not being 100% unselfish...they are doing it to make a video of themselves doing it

but more important than the attention whoring is the fact that ther money is not helping anyone...im not saying there shouldnt be research towards a cure...but id much prefer to help someone right now...rather than maybe one day next century or the one after

Cancer and Republicans kill more people than ALS, so maybe we should put our money into research to eliminate them first. Then we can cure ALS.

Pretty sure that's havas' point, which is just rational logic.  All of these diseases kill people, which sucks. So why not dump all of your resources into 1, rather than spreading it out over a dozen?

It's like renovating a house. Are you going to fix half of a leaky roof so that you still have enough money left to remodel the bathroom?   Of course not. You fix the farging roof.

Most people won't agree with this logic when it comes to curing diseases because someone who lost a loved one to ALS is going to prioritize it over everything else since the disease had a direct impact on them. And someone who lost aloved one in a dui accident is going to donate to end that. And that's fine. But it still doesn't make it the most logical choice.

but im actually for defunding much of the money that goes to cancer research and i like pretty much everyone has had multiple family members/friends die from it....but i completely understand thinking that is crazy because cancer affects millions and millions of lives...cancer is the sun on that size of the solar system link....als is the planet you have to scroll right for 12 minutes to find...also cancer many times isnt fatal so its almost as much about finding new treatments as it is finding a cure....als is 1. get disease 2. start to deteriorate immediately 3. get talking computer 4. die.....and again this is the most important part - it kills 5000 people a year...thats a high school gym

the analogy id use sarge is do you want to build a new bridge over the san fran bay that might be ready in 50 years so a couple neighborhoods can have a better commute....or do you wanna rebuild oakland right now and improve the lives of an entire city

My favorite charity is breast cancer. For those of you who are unfamiliar, breast cancer awareness month is in October. Some companies chose to wear pink to raise awareness.

i dont need it to go to my favorite or even one i support....it should just go to one that is worth it and helps people or circumstances in a meaningful way on a short term basis....build someone a house...put food or water in someones stomach...shtein give it to a candidate you believe can effect gun control chance or farg even protect your gun rights....but its a complete waste of money going to als "research"...however if you like throwing your money away go for it
