the bad contracts were partially due to the fact that they havent produced a single viable major leaguer sincer KYLE KENDRICK. and he stinks.

granted they traded a decent number of those prospects away. aside from cosart and maybe singleton and santana, none of them have amounted to squat. thats the issue. they had nobody, and have nobody, pushing utley and rollins and ruiz and howard out. they had nobody to fill 3rd so they signed the corpse of polanco. they had no decent starters so they traded for doc and oswalt and signed burnett. they have no outfielders so they traded for pence and revere and signed byrd.

and thats why they might offer this cuban outfielder a gazillion dollars...hes 28....they essentially have no choice but to take a risk.
Zero hour, Michael. It's the end of the line. I'm the firstborn. I'm sick of playing second fiddle. I'm always third in line for everything. I'm tired of finishing fourth. Being the fifth wheel. There are six things I'm mad about, and I'm taking over.

MLB network is making it sound like there will probably be no trades involving the Phillies today.

SD

Aside from something minor like basticho for a bag of peanuts. They'll add a fringe outfielder and reliever in the offseason, give thd fans some rhetoric about players looking good and feeling healthy...and call it a day. This is the Phillies now.

Now some rumors creeping up on MLB Network:

1.  Burnett to Royals - talking, but not close
2.  Byrd - RAJ asking price too high (shocker), but "probably will be moved"

its really bad now but whats gonna be downright ugly is in 2017  when pretty much every contract of significance will be off the books and they have no young talent to replace any of the departing players...particularly when it comes to position players....there is a ray of hope when it comes to the mound
i can take a phrase thats rarely heard...flip it....now its a daily word

Phillies said to be asking for big prospects back for Marlon Byrd

The asking price for Marlon Byrd is said to be extremely high, with interested teams saying the Phillies would have to lower it to move him.

Byrd should be among the Phils' most movable pieces, but there's no certainty he goes at this point.

Word is, the Phillies handed Seattle a list of three good prospects, and suggested the Mariners pick two to send for Byrd. That seemed to scuttle things, though Seattle's other hurdle was that Byrd has a no-trade there (and three other places) and was asking that his 2016 option be picked up for him to approve a trade.

But, according to a person with knowledge of the talks, the Phillies believe what they've been offered for Byrd, considering his production, is "embarrassing." In some cases, that person said, the bids are pitchers with 5-plus and 6-plus ERAs.

Byrd is having a nice year, but his $8 million salary for next year gives some teams pause, much less the option for '16.

The Yankees have checked in, as have the Royals and some others.

this amaro guy is pretty damn crafty.
