Who the hell would the Cardinals give up for Burnett? Certainly not Tavaris

perhaps you could explain sd's reasons for "disliking" it as well since you seem to be so in tune with other peoples minds

Dillen

They still have a solid system. If the Phils could pull off something around Stephen Piscotty or James Ramsay for just Burnett that'd be a hell of a deal. Possible since the Cards have tons of OF depth. Maybe Wong + Jon Jay or something

MDS

they arent getting anything remotely good for burnett or byrd

the only team that wants byrd is seattle. he has a no trade there. hes not going unless they pick up his 2016 option. burnett is guaranteed like 15 mil next year, which he could easily just decide to pick up.

ruben amaro. strikes. again.
Zero hour, Michael. It's the end of the line. I'm the firstborn. I'm sick of playing second fiddle. I'm always third in line for everything. I'm tired of finishing fourth. Being the fifth wheel. There are six things I'm mad about, and I'm taking over.

I imagine Byrd has some value (not an enormous amount, but he is producing this year and seems like a viable trade chip someone in contention might want), but I don't trust Rube to pull off anything.

MDS

hes an old outfielder with a 320 obp and a ton of strikeouts

hes a nice piece for a contender...a solid upgrade for a team or two. but he aint worth that much.

He has an .800 OPS and had a .830 OPS last year.  I agree he's not worth tons but he has a reasonable contract and can still hit for significant power while not being a defensive liability.  I have to think they can get something out of that.

ice grillin you

byrds value is in the fact that hes pretty much the only right handed power OF in the entire league thats available

Love that article because it admits the truth. Teams aren't going to give the Phillies shtein for any of those contracts, Hamels included. Only some deluded Phils fans and maybe Rube think there's some great bonanza to be had from a sell-off. If the Phillies manage to get any prospects who turn out to be MLB-level players in exchange for Phillies old-timers, it'll be due to pure luck. Rube's made trades where he gave up more valuable assets than they have now, and all he got was zesty prospects in return. You can keep the team intact or you can burn it down. Either way the team is still going to suck balls in 2017. The die was cast once the ink dried on those contracts.

I'd still be inclined to dump as many players not named Giles as possible, because even if there's only a 10% chance that anyone they get in return will be a meaningful part of a winning Phillies team one day, that's still higher odds than the guys they already have.

Rome

No one is arguing the Phillies farged up royally by signing these fossils to long-term deals but that's not really why the Phillies are an abomination.  They're awful because the dickface in charge didn't acquire adequate replacements for them via the draft.  They're terrible because the scouting staff is a joke and their player personnel philosophy is archaic.  They hire clowns like Amaro because they're lifelong Phillies who take orders from people who shouldn't be running a baseball franchise... they should be heading over to the local buffet for the early bird special.

They're making the same mistakes the Eagles made during the last 10 years (until Lurie got smart and blew everyone out of the water).  They're plugging and praying around a core group that simply can't win anymore.  The only way out of this is to blast everyone out.  They have Comcast's billions now, so they can afford the 20,000 fewer fans showing up at the park until they get good again in 4-5 years.

Or they can keep jerkoffs like Amaro around and continue to con the fans into believing they're just "thisclose" to turning it into a contender again.
