Other pitchers are worth 150 million.  Colleen isn't worth 80.  If he was every GM in MLB would be on his ass right now.

Scherzer's going to get ~8 years/200M this offseason. Hamels is what, 4 for 90M or so? Every GM in the league would prefer that.

So Hamels is worth a team's three or four best prospects and the 90 million left the Phillies owe him?

What part of this are you guys not understanding?  If a free agent comes loose and all you have to do is pay him 150M, that's better than surrendering your best prospects and 90 million dollars for a guy who in his best year won 17 games.

Hamels is a clear legit #1 starter.  I'm not debating that.  What I'm saying is I agree with the unnamed GM who thinks Boob is asking a ridiculous amount for a guy who isn't worth what he's asking.

Just to clarify - I was assuming you meant he isn't worth that contract in general, not in the context of that contract + top prospects. So yeah, I think everyone agrees that RAJ asking price is ridiculous.

But... I think RAJ is saying that now, it's just posturing (unless he is really that stupid, which is entirely possible). LA can build a deal w/ Joc or Seager as the centerpiece and litter a couple other decent prospects in, and that's what he's worth. STL could give up Taveras or Matt Adams + another couple B prospects and ask Philly eat some of the salary, and that's what he's worth. These teams have good systems, and Philly should get a similar (and better) return than what they gave up for Pence. Whoever buys Hamels will have a good system. There will be a big impact player like Taveras, Seager, whoever, among several others that have solid MLB floors.

I do think the Yanks could do exactly what everyone says won't happen, and trade their top 4 and eat the salary. This is because their system is meh and their best prospects don't have high ceilings like everyone else in play.

probably cause it never happened...heidi is a good pitcher no doubt...hes just not elite and he loves giving up game winning runs in the 7th inning

this kind of reminds me of shady 2-3 years ago....premier talent wasting away on a terrible team. not sure if hamels will ever be this good again. perhaps he is this good because the games dont mean anything.
