The Seattle Times is the latest newspaper to ban the word "taterskins" when covering the NFL team in Washington, D.C.

"The most controversial name in sports won't appear again in The Seattle Times' print edition or on the seattletimes.com home pages as long as I am sports editor," The Seattle Times sports editor Don Shelton wrote. "It's time to ban the use of 'taterskins,' the absurd, offensive and outdated name of the NFL team in Washington, D.C. Past time, actually."

Two weeks after the taterskins hired political blogger Ben Tribbett to help defend the team's controversial name, Tribbett announced late Monday that he will resign. So reports washingtonpost.com. Tribbett wrote the Virginia political blog "Not Larry Sabato," where he broke the story of taterskins executive Bruce Allen's brother, former Virgina Senator George Allen referring to one of his opponent's campaign volunteers as a "macaca" in 2006. On Monday, Indian Country Today Media Network posted several Tweets by Tribbett from a casino in 2010 in which he uses derogatory terms to describe an interaction with a Native American.
