typical of philly...two most memorable teams of the past 3 decades. 93 phils, 01 sixers. both lost in the finals.

if they both win they get 30 for 30s, books by national writers, commercial love, all that. but instead...they lose.

good point...its possibly they would just refuse to do something like that because it would go against the national narrative of philly being THE WORST

thats why any time there is a philly takeover in a stadium is beyond impressive. nobody likes philly but philly. the bandwagon is non existent.

I always wonder what would have happened media wise with the 80 phils if it had happened 20 years later

they went longer without a title than the red sox....philly didn't have a celtics to fall back on...or an original six hockey team

would that title have been a national darling

should be noted too that the phils 80 team was the franchises FIRST title

sox had won before and their franchise was like 35 years younger than the phils

i know they were actively not trying for like the 20-40s or whatever (hence the 10000 losses plateau) but even before that or after it how hard could it have been in an 8 team nl? jesus christ that franchise sucks.

The 80 Phils win was special because the 76-79 teams choked like a motherfarger.  They went out and got Pete Rose in 79 and he was supposed to be the difference.  He wasn't.  It's remarkable that the 80 team even won because they were the worst of that era.  The 77 team was absolutely dominant.   The 08 Phiis were like the 77 Phils only they won.

the 08 phils werent the best of the era...they just happened to win. helped playing a super-soft dodgers team in the nlcs and something called the devils rays in the world series.

2011 they were a monster. they wouldve won the world series if that motherfarger cliff lee couldve held a 4-0 lead. farg him.

They went 11-3 in the playoffs and they had Rollins, Utley & Howard all in the prime of their careers.  They dominated those playoffs whereas the 77 Phillies sputtered against the Dodgers.
