yeah aaaberry sucking is the problem there not the steal...especially with two outs....if theres one out then you see if grit can get him to third...but with two outs you are basically saying grit has to hit an xbh or they lose

Yep. I can understand taking Choke out if they're leading or if he was on second and was the thing run...then you need the wheels to score.

its not always like this but with this pen it really is the names...in clearwater all you had to do is look at the roster and you couldnt believe this is what they had to work with

RULE No. 1 of pinch running:

go big or go home.

theres no sense in PRing for someone unless you actually plan to increase your odds of scoring a run. i.e. steal a base. theres no sense in taking howard out of the lineup for AAAberry. absolutely none. for revere? yes. but not for AAAberry. he didnt go 1st to 3rd on that ball (didnt see it not sure if he couldve), but ryne threw him under the bus after.

anyway they lost because sandberg is a dumbass and the bullpen sucks. onward and upward gents.

Off the bat I thought it was a lock but that little speedy Gonzalez dude Campana made a helluva play and cut the ball off before it got to the corner. Most other left fielders couldn't have cut that off.

thats why pinch running is so silly....the odds of getting a hit where the pinch runner actually makes a difference are so minimal. byrd got a hit, which was slim to begin with, but it wasnt the right kind of hit.

maybe he shouldve just bunted?

i agree with the pinch running thing...so many things have to happen for it to be worth it

im being extreme here but unless its really late in an elimination game and you have vince coleman on your roster its probably a meaningless move at best and a bad move most of the time

exactly...if you are facing mo rivera and down a run and have dave roberts on the bench. by all means, do it. otherwise, it rarely pays.

how many times did cholly pr for burrell back in the day, then have chris roberson come up in the 9th or 10th inning? christ i lost my mind.

He made a bad decision to pinch run for Choke

The guy he puts in couldn't have made it. Revere or Jimmy mayyyybe make it. And that's with them not hesitating.

If I remember right Campana is a lefty so it was even easier for him to cut that off because he was already glove side with the ball. If he's a righty maybe he doesn't cut it or pauses enough to crossover and he is clear. But he was on that ball quick.

just saw the play....not sure if AAAberry makes it but with 1 out and the bottom of the order up hes gotta go for it. bad play. you can be over-aggressive in that spot, its ok. with who was due up it was well worth the risk.
