I actually am more open to the stat stuff than most people of my age bracket, but the little guy needs to let it go already.

this is what nerds do....you just have to ignore it....they will never stop...its a big part of the reason noone watches baseball anymore

also second to last place phils!

i understand how it can be overbearing....but it has exactly 0% to do with why baseball has limited national appeal. zero. percent. zero.

sure it does....sports is not the place to get nerdy....nerdy used to be turning your baseball cap inside out to spark a late inning comeback....or the super nerds would actually keep the  official score on their program scorecard....but at least those things were done by people who loved the game and watched it  and played it and went to it

now super nerdy is babip and fipx2(ops) made up by wanna be mathmeticians who could care less about baseball and certainly dont follow it

no one is refusing to watch baseball because of PECOTA. and the people who came up with the nerd stats do in fact like the sport. i dont even know why im arguing about this with you, this is the dumbest thing ever.

it definitely drives people away...i know several people including myself who dont like it like they used to for that exact reason...but more than that it attracts absolutely no one

im not saying its even close to the main reason no one watches it but its actively dissuades people....rich middle age white men might enjoy it and perhaps they can talk their kids into being stat nerds but thats it...and even those people arent into into the game...they are into the formulas...and thats terrible for bidness

basketball and football being better sports has done that

dirty little secret: less white people also play baseball now than they used to and if they had a choice most would choose the other two before baseball...plus baseball has to fight with soccer for honkeys

but this ever growing subset of nerds who discount people who dont pray at the sabremetric alter as some sort of a lesser fan is also a problem

if you are letting a nerd stop you from enjoying something you like the issue isn't the nerd.

i like the nfl a lot less than i used too because of its overbearing in your face nature of the nfl office....and they arent nerds they are bullies

maybe you are a robot who just stays the course and likes everything now the same as you did 20 years ago and the same as you will in 20 years from now...but thats not me...various different factors can raise and lower my enjoyment of something

The stat invasion has taken a bit away from baseball for me too...and as nutty as I am for football baseball was always my numero uno.

We're talking me rushing to the store the morning when the new Baseball Weekly's would hit the stands so I could read it cover to cover...I was like 12-13 then. I'd consume anything and everything MLB related. That's why I know so many obscure players because I would read and read and read and memorize their numbers and all that goofy shtein.

Now its all this stat bullshtein and I don't like it.

yeah it doesnt make the game itself worse....it makes following it less fun....you literally cant have a discussion much less an argument about a team or player with a stat nerd because he hasn't watched the game yet will tell you how wrong you are because of some stupid formula

I will say for right now its mostly an internet thing....you don't run into a whole lot of nerds at a bar or a game because they don't watch the sport

while you are in the stands or watching on tv baseball is as good as ever its just the rest of it being over saturated with numbers bullshtein
