They've given up the 2nd most runs in the NL so far this year & you're still relying on older players like Utley/Howard/Rollins etc to hold up over the course of the season.  I'm rooting for them to do well but I don't expect it.

no, hes an idiot. hes managing the same way cholly (save for moving howard to 5th sometimes. oooooo) did and the same way kid gleason did in 1918. he bunts, he manages to give pitchers wins and closers saves. stats. like all managers do, because stats are important.

they had 2 options coming into this year
1. win the world series
2. plan for the future

#1 is in impossibility. so why not #2? im supposed to just shrug my shoulders and cheer on the local 9? GO TEAM!!

la russa because everything he does works, even if its by the book and silly at points.

the first manager to not use his "closer" in exclusive save situations and ban bunting except for specific situations will get my vote. by aint no folks like that.

no....im not ignoring facts and putting my head in the sand.

bunting and wins and saves and rbis and runs have proven to be pretty arbitrary and ineffective forms of player evaluation/strategy. leaving your pitcher in so he can be eligible for a win even well past the point of usefulness....holding your best relief pitch off until you have 1-3 run lead.....blindly looking at a 100 rbi season and saying THAT WAS AWESOME--all things that go into making a bad baseball team.

I think that works in reverse.  People ignoring new data seems to fit the other side of that argument.
