Closers are so stupid!

Not everyone can do it for whatever reason. It takes nuts to handle the pressure and not every pitcher has it.

typical thought but fairly inaccurate

take a look at the saves leaders over the past decade....lots and lots of different names on that list. pretty much anyone can do it. most guys dont become major league pitchers because they want to be middle relievers.

but yes, they are SOME guys that have the ability to "close" but will meltdown in pressure situations. but its not very common.

you have to question why the phillies traded for lidge then.....when geoff geary was already on the roster

perhaps i should have mentioned it was relative to ability. i thought it was understood, since, you know, geoff geary sucks in any situation. but alas.

example: ryan madson was good. ryan madson was an 8th inning guy for a few years. ryan madson was assumed to not have "what it took" to be a closer. in 2011 ryan madson was a very good closer. Saves!
