There is a sincere effort to break the state system, but it faces a formidable challenge from the liquor store workers union (who is lying to protect their position) and the distributors (who are two entrenched and short sighted to see the opportunity this presents).

Any of you lushes brew your own beer? They sell kits online for relatively cheap. I bought John Palmer's How to Brew and am waiting for the kit. Wondering how yours turned out. When I was in the Navy a buddy of mine made his own beer and it was sublime.

a friend of mine who used to have season tickets with us brews his own all the time....he still comes to a game or two a year and brings some....im not a big fruit beer guy but he makes a raspberry lager that is excellent...i personally dont know the first thing about it tho

The place where I bought the kit is a 35 minute drive from me and offers a intro course for $40. It's sunday at 1, I can't wait.

My Navy buddy made his with a hint of cherry and hazelnut.

I started brushing up on the process, if I brew any decent ones I bring them to a tailgate this year.

nice....mos def do....learn how to make malt liquor too

I think the coolest thing about it is being able to put the beer in so many different kinds of bottles jugs whatever you want.....as long as it has the right top

I've got a real cheap mr beer kit but haven't used it. I've been told that I won't get anything decent out of it really.

We have a supply store down near Newark that I'd like to go to sometime soon and see what kind of brew kits they have there. I'd also just like to buy some hops and malts to put into my Randall Jr tube.

perhaps you could explain sd's reasons for "disliking" it as well since you seem to be so in tune with other peoples minds

My buddy used to use Grolsch bottles because they had the cap attached and were easy to plug. The place I'm going to sells all that stuff.

Here's the Yelp review of the place. The angry women sexist review of the place half way down is gold:

How cheap? From what I understand as long as you have the basic supplies you can brew a decent batch. The kit I bought was $65

I made beer once. The fine people at Dogfish Head do a superior job, so now I let them do it for me.

The owner and founder of Dogfish was serving beer at the Dogfish tent at Firefly. Cool guy.

Good to know, because I've been giving him a lot of money.

Mr Beer kits aren't bad if you want to do a basic beer.  Hell, my parents just dropped off two yesterday that I have no interest in using so if anyone wants em, let me know.

I've brewed a few times, and have some buddies who are pretty hardcore into brewing.  I entered a homebrew contest at Iron Hill a few years back and managed to win second place in my category where it was being judged by the Iron Hill brewers and brewer from Dogfish.  Guy from dogfish wanted my hops and grain usage recipe so they do do something down the road.   It's all about the hops.

So anyone have Jura Distillery scotches?  Buddy was in Scotland, his family there lives close where Jura is made.  Just across some of north sea or whatever it is.  Anyway.  The 10year Origin is delicious.  Doesnt need any ice.  Has an almost sweet taste, and its not very peaty.

Never had it, but it sounds nice. I'll have to keep an eye open for it.
