can someone explain to me what a friendly means in soccer....i thought it meant a game that means absolutely nothing...but if thats the case why do so many people go to them

why do so many people go to spring training games

to vacation in florida mostly

but also to see future prospects and peep your team for the upcoming season

best to my knowledge and correct me if im wrong the friendlys arent preseason games are they?....i mean they have no larger meaning outside of the 90 minutes that day right?

they dont...its a straight exhibition

though for example usa is using it as a warm up for world cup qualifying. so they want to see a good result. and they need the warm up because these guys dont play together too often.

i can understand it from a team and sport perspective.....i cant understand 60 thousand fans paying top dollar to go

i suspect it mostly has to do with the infrequent nature of these games happening in any particular us city....its more like a concert than a sporting event

still baffling to me tho that the games mean literally nothing

basically yes..its an event when the usmnt or a top epl team come into a city for the soccer folks there

the games do mean something in the sense that you want to see them play well because important games are coming up...but theoretically yes thats why they're called friendly's

do any soccer games really matter in the us other than the world cup since the us is a lock to always qualify for it.....what non world cup games ever really matter?

other than anything surrounding the world cup soccer can fall into a lava pit for all i care.
