Just what I've observed over the years, I'd have to refer to SD for any scientific research.

That's really sad Dio. Glad it seemed you both knew she was at the end. Planting a nice tree over her grave is a good idea. When my first dog had passed when I was a kid, we did the same. Like you, that dog had been with my dad through basically all of his walks of life.

Even better that your other pup knew and understood. Seeing dogs run around the house for a week looking for their friend is one of the saddest things I've ever seen. At least you don't have to deal with that, which makes it significantly worse. Sorry man. Hope you and your family handle it well.

Damn Dio that sucks man, sorry to hear.

igy - our boxer died at home like that. She waited until my mom got home from work and once she petted her it was lights out

Diomedes

She did not die at home.  She was euthanized at a vet's office.  The guy who comes to your home to do it was out of town.  When I say she died peacefully, I mean she was being held in my arms when she fell out from the sedation shot..she was out cold when the kill shot was administered and died almost instantly.  It was startling how quickly the drugs worked.

Since I knew it was time for her to go, and couldn't get an appointment until the evening, I spent the day with her.  Literally digging her grave in a field while she basked in the sun.

I almost hated how fast it happened when they put my pup down. One minute he was there looking at me, the next he was out cold. Then the 2nd shot went in and his breathing stopped almost immediately. It was just too quick to lose something that's been there as long as you can remember.

Sorry for your loss Dio. Good to see you got to enjoy one last good day with her.

perhaps you could explain sd's reasons for "disliking" it as well since you seem to be so in tune with other peoples minds

Sorry Dio.  This is the only truly bad thing about having pets. I remember the day I put mine down (3 yrs ago already) I grilled him a fat juicy steak before taking him in.  Got him cremated and wrapped his collar around the box.

Yeti

When my dogs die I just remember a saying I heard.  When you die all the dogs you ever loved come running up to greet you.

I like that.

And I think it was you DIO that added "and we'll all eat steak."  That sounds nice too.

Sorry for your loss.

Sorry to hear about your pup, Dio.

The home visit to verify I'm awesome enough to adopt my Chow is this afternoon. Instead of naming her Chowbacca (or Ms. Chowbacca the Woofie in formal situations), I'm going to call her Collie.

I'm deeply ashamed of myself, but I laughed.

Very sorry to hear that, Dio. I had to do that once to a great dog who had cancer. Sucks all the way around. Sounds like you made her have a far better and longer life than she would have had otherwise.

My dog poops when it rains. This makes me irate.

I would have thought that was obvious. But yes.

I thought you meant outside and it makes you irate because standing in the rain makes you all wet, but not in the good way.
