It though Illinois was a hippie MA state, guess it just sucks ass.  I remember when i turned 16 and they just started doing the Zero Tolerance laws.  There was some oddity if you decided to move out of the state you got the ticket in, that you could get a license in an adjoining state no problem.  I have no clue if that was even an option then, or is now.  But if it is, He's gonna be moving to Good Ol Maryland

OK, here goes - I got popped back in early 08 in Jersey. Long story short, I blew just over the limit, and ended up losing my license for 7 months. In that time, I moved to Philly, and tried to get myself a PA license, which I was told I could not get because of reciprocity laws.

Bottom line, of all the stupid shtein I've done, getting a DUI was the worst. It ended up costing me upwards of 7K between legal fees and penalties, I lost my license for 7 months, and worst part is that it's embarrassing as shtein whenever it comes up..."Hey Mike, you wanna drive?....'umm, I cant'"

I look it as a good thing though because as cliche as it sounds, I probably would have killed myself if I kept living like that, and even if its just to selfishly protect myself from losing it again, I never drive even buzzed anymore. Weirdest part though was that I signed up for the classes right after it happened, and was never called to attend.

I can say, the embarrassment is there.  He pretty much is depressed, spent two days loathing in bed, hasn't told any of his other buddies.  He retained a top rate local lawyer from Sussex County, De.  The southern judges don't appreciate bringing northern judges from Wilmington down.   It's just a zesty way to get popped.

I dont remember who said it, and Im not going back to look, but the most important thing is not to get the "best" lawyer, but one who knows the prosecutor. My lawyer knew the prosecutor well, and I got off with the penalties, fines, etc. Still ended up costing a ridiculous amount of money, time and embarrasment.

ice grillin you

99.9% of the time in a dui case it is more or less locked in stone what you are gonna get...especially for a first timer...no need to spend more than necessary on a lawyer

if you were challenging the validity of the breathylizer....trying to get off on some technicality...claiming police misconduct or some shtein like that then you want a good lawyer...otherwise you can basically represent yourself and not a whole lot is going to change

Get a good DWI lawyer and your chances of beating it or having it knocked down to Careless or Reckless Driving increase exponentially.

PS: Representing yourself in any court of law is a colossally stupid idea.

THIS. I got mine a long time ago, like 2001. Believe it or not, I blew a .32, couple hours later when I got blood drawn I still had a .19. Anyway, luckily no one got hurt, and I was in school so didn't really care about the 3 month license suspension since I didn't drive up there anyway. At the time driving wasted was just a normal thing we all did. If it wasn't for this DUI I'm sure something much worse would have happened.

Even though it really hasn't affected my drinking much, I am probably the most responsible person that I know when it comes to driving. Maybe a handful of times in the last ten years have I driven with 2-3 beers in me, and never have I driven after any more than that.

Funny story about my classes though, wss taking them up in State College and saw an older girl from my HS there. Started shooting the shtein like "you have to take this bullshtein class too? yadda yadda". she was the instructor.
