right....so hed be hiding the fact that he doesnt give a shtein about his situation by going to these classes on his own for no other reason than appeasing/fooling the court

his distateful attitude is being covered up by the tastefulness of his going out of his way on his own to take these classes

No. But I'm disgusted with myself for even having this conversation so, sure.

This is fascinating - please continue.

Well you see, extending an olive branch refers to offering a good faith compromise to a difficult situation, which is exactly what IGY is suggesting. The elaborate rationalization that IGY presents in an effort to cling desperately to his false believe that a fig leaf is somehow in play here just doesn't hold water.

Also, SB's boy wasn't complicit, he was compliant.

And license is spelled thusly.

fig leaf absolutely is in play....and in no way was i suggesting hed be making a good faith gesture...what you do is take the stupid class on your own so it appears to the court that you actually care when in reality you dont

you are upset with yourself because you had never heard of the metaphorical fig leaf before....so you and your smarty pant friends thought you could trip up the street smart but book dope moron...but you know what

False on all counts. I use the fig leaf metaphor and the olive branch metaphor from time to time. Olive branch works better here, but my self loathing has now truly reached new depths so if you're insisting that this is a fig leaf situation you can just go right ahead and do that.

SO SUE ME NERD!

Honestly we should all go on a bender and drive off a bridge holding hands, Thelma and Louise style.

Nah, he did the breathalyzer, and coudlnt believe that it was .14.  He acutally asked if they would draw blood, because he just couldn't fathom how that was right.  Now he's bugging because if its more than .15 he's considered out of the first time offender program.  He's already setup the classes and meets with his lawyer tomorrow.  He was completely complicit, the officer told him he knew he wasnt some POS, but once he set the wheels in motion it couldn't stop.

if he was shcoked because he didnt think he drank that much the night before thats one thing....but if hes shocked cause it was the next day then he shouldnt be

.14 is not that high for the morning after a binge fest
Matty must be technically drunk all the time

Pretty sure regardless of the state, a DUI means a loss of license. That word wasnt hard to spell at all.

It's actually pretty rare, at least for 1st time offenders.  Obviously I can't speak on behalf of every state, but I know that Missouri, Kansas, NC and Cali won't take your license for a 1st timer....assuming that you weren't a fleshpop who refused a field sobriety and/or breathalyzer.

Worst I've seen done to 1st timers is they get a restricted license which only allows them to drive to and from work (and during work, if driving is part of their job) and court appointments.  Typically, the restriction is in place until court ordered fines, alcohol treatment and/or community service are completed which can be upwards of 6 months.

Also, there's nothing that SB's friend can do short of getting a lawyer who is savvy enough to find an error in the arresting officer's procedure.  DUI laws are only based on the amount of booze in your system when the cops pull you over.  It doesn't matter how much or how little you had to drink and it doesn't matter how long ago you drank.  He could have not drank for a week but if it's in his system, he's intoxicated.  You could just as easily stop off at a bar, have 1 beer, get in your car, be pulled over and still blow over the legal limit.  1 beer consumed will put damn near everyone over .08 immediately.  So unless you wait about an hour to give your body time to process the alcohol, you could get popped for DUI.

Finally, who gives a shtein how easy or hard it is to spell license (or any other word for that matter)?  The board has a farging spell check feature for christ's sake.

In ILL, the license (sp?) is suspended for 3 months if you complicity comply to the field sobriety tests; if you don't it's 6 months. If you follow the Implied Consent law, doing the stupid drunk tricks, you can get a work permit after the first month. I'm pretty sure anymore first time offenders have to get a breath-a-starter installed, where they gotta blow start the car to make sure they're still not hammered.

According to ILL lawyers, the best thing a first time offender can do is refuse all tests, not necessarily being a fleshpophead about it, but requesting legal representation. Apparently that way the lawdogs can actually fight the charges and win since there's no evidence.
