Romney shouldn't be running on that platform.  He should say the out of control fiscal situation in this country needs to be handled and that protectionism/tariffs universally drive up prices and will have a large net negative on a macro level.  Pump $ into educating the populace for 21st century jobs and lament the fact that jobs like shoemakers or steelworkers usually can't be kept in this country and though it will negatively impact some, it is necessary to save the whole.

Now it's not relevant because he won't say that, but I think that's what should be said.  I do not cheer when jobs go overseas.  I basically had to switch fields because of it, but it's the nature of the beast.  I am not supporting obnoxious CEOs and think taxes need to be ratcheted up, but I absolutely do not believe protectionism is the answer at all.

I don't know if you guys are being inundated with the same commercials I am here in Florida but you can't go five minutes without these two dickheads smearing each other.  Now, Obama has his record to run on and I think he should spend more time accentuating his achievements in office, but the fact is the negative shtein is working.

Romney, on the other hand, has literally spent millions on advertising the same commercial:  It's the one with him calling Obama untrustworthy, and a liar, and then showing Hillary Clinton back in 2008 saying, shame on you.  It's not like he's actually disputing anything Obama is suggesting with facts of his own; he's just saying this guy is a liar and that's it.

We get it.  Obama is a liar and Romney is a vulture.

Any chance we can actually talk about the problems this country faces?  I doubt it, but hey, let's give it a shot, shall we?

I don't think that's happened in my lifetime. It certainly wasn't happening the first and last time I voted in '92 (for Perot).

We've talked about the problems quite a bit.  We've offered opinions and possible solutions.  Problem is that none of us are in position to actually do something about it because none of us hate ourselves enough to get involved in politics.

Even if one of you were elected into an office, it's not like you could change anything. The system is rigged.

I've been unplugged for a few days. Two questions:

1. Has anyone shot our extreme leftist, socialist, jihadist, un-American, foreign born sleeper cell President?
2. Has anyone been given the full picture of the finances of the rich white guy running for President?

romney released one year's worth, and doesn't have to release any more because teresa heinz kerry didn't 8 years ago, even though john kerry gave up 20+ years.

rjs246

Ah yes, I remember Teresa Heinz Kerry's run for President. Heady times, those.

jon stewart made an excellent point that the only returns romney has released are post 2008...in other words during a time when he knew he was running for president

oh and theres this....

QuoteRepublican Presidential nominee Mitt Romney has seen pressure mount from both Democrats and Republican pundits to release his tax returns. Romney has maintained that he is "simply not enthusiastic" about giving Democrats "hundreds or thousands of more pages to pick through, distort, and lie about."

But in 2002, during his run for Governor Romney attacked his opponent Shannon O'Brien for not releasing her husband's tax returns.

Romney said he declined to release his tax returns on a "principled position" saying it one debate "I value my privacy." The Romney campaign accused O'Brien, who released her tax returns every year since 1998, of being disingenuous by releasing her but not her husband's returns, a former lobbyist who had worked with Enron.

Romney spokesman and current top Romney aide Eric Fehnrstrom claimed O'Brien was attempting to hide possibly embarrassing finances from voters.

"Her hands aren't clean. She can't claim to be disclosing anything until she discloses the returns of her husband, the Enron lobbyist," Fehnrstrom said. "Under Shannon O'Brien, the state Pension Board lost millions by buying Enron stock when it was collapsing -- what is she hiding?"

The O'Brien campaign called the charge a "desperate attack" and did not release any returns.

i saw the god james carville on tv sometime this weekend and he said something like "the only person who has seen romney's tex returns was john mccain in 2008 and he picked sarah palin."

at first glance it seems like the democrats are being nitpciky, but when other pubs start asking for you to just do it and get it over with, and you still won't, you're definitely hiding something.

my guess is he was still getting paid by bain for long after he said he was out of there. or he has some shady confidentiality clause when he left stating that he can't disclose certain things that went on there.

rjs246

I'm kind of enjoying the swift-boat retribution that Obama is inflicting upon poor old Mitt.

And yeah, something in those returns is damning. That observation from Carville will be showing up in a pro-Obama ad any second now...
