As bad as the Eagle logo is the Liberty Bell is badass.

I only saw the head logo from my phone, the bell is decent and the helmet is okay. Nothing will ever replace the old symbol.

QuotePhiladelphia Eagles wide receivers are happy, healthy

By Mark Eckel/The Times The Times, Trenton

Michael Mancuso / The Times of TrentonPhiladelphia Eagles WR Jeremy Maclin runs after a catch on a 44-yd play to the Green Bay 30 in the 2nd quarter in the 2011 NFC Wildcard Playoff game between the Philadelphia Eagles and Green Bay Packers held at Lincoln Financial Field on Sunday January 9, 2011. Packers defender CB Tramon Williams is in pursuit. The Packers won the game 21-16.

Every week until the start of training camp a different position on the Eagles will be analyzed. Today is receivers.

DeSean Jackson is happy; Jeremy Maclin is healthy and the Eagles hope that leads to much more success for their group of wide receivers in 2012.

Just a year ago, as the makings of The Dream Team were being completed, Jackson was miserable over his league-minimum salary and Maclin was battling a mysterious ailment that left him fatigued and left the team wondering if he would make it to the season.

Jackson showed up, went through the motions, was suspended a game for missing a meeting and had the least productive of his four seasons in the league.

Maclin recovered in time to start the season opener, but saw his numbers fall from the year before when he began to emerge as one of the league's better receivers.
Jackson, now with a brand-new contract that will pay him $47 million over the next five years, looks to improve on a season where he caught 58 passes (49th best in the league) for 961 yards (23rd best) and four touchdowns.

Maclin would also like to see his numbers from 2011 when he caught 63 passes (40th best) for 859 yards (35th best) and five touchdowns also improve.

In Andy Reid's pass-first West Coast offense, both Jackson and Maclin should be capable of 70 catches and over 1,000 yards.

Jackson had back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons in 2009 and 2010 and Maclin had 70 for 964 with 10 touchdowns in 2010.

This season Jackson, who has been criticized in the past for a "me-first'' attitude, has vowed to become one of the team's leaders. It's amazing what $47 million can do.

"I just want to be a leader, carry the guys with me, and step up and be accountable,'' Jackson said during the team's minicamp. "That's the biggest thing that this team needs. With myself, (quarterback Michael) Vick, Maclin, (running back LeSean) McCoy, (tight end Brent) Celek, as far as the offense goes, it starts there first and foremost.

"We have to go out there and help our defense out by going out and scoring as many points as possible. As long as we're able to do that and lead as leaders and everybody watches us and follows along, it doesn't have to be any screaming and yelling or anything, but as long as we can lead by example and we're going out there and showing the young guys what to do out there, everyone else will follow."

Following Jackson and Maclin on the Eagles' depth chart is veteran Jason Avant (52 catches, 679 yards and one touchdown in 2011), who returns as the team's slot receiver.

Avant dropped more passes than he should have last season, but he remains solid in his role and is especially valuable on third down.

If, as expected, Reid keeps five receivers, the final two spots will likely go to third-year man Riley Cooper (16 catches, 315 yards and one touchdown) and probably draft pick, Marvin McNutt, a 6-foot-3, 216-pound receiver from Iowa.

McNutt, a sixth-round pick, was projected to go as high as the third round after he caught 82 passes for 1,315 yards and 12 touchdowns as a senior.

Chad Hall, rookie McKay Jacobson, from BYU and Arena League standout Tiger Jones will also be in camp.

Brent Celek, coming off a 62-catch, 811-yard, five-touchdown season after a down 2010 season returns at tight end and again hopes are high for the six-year veteran from Cincinnati.

Celek's numbers will depend on how often he is asked to stay in and protect Vick. Which means it may come down to how well left tackle Demetrius Bell is playing in place of injured Pro Bowl left tackle Jason Peters.

Clay Harbor (13 catches, 163 yards and one touchdown in 2011) is the incumbent as the No. 2 tight end, but former Lawrence High standout Brett Brackett, who ended the season on the practice squad, and rookie Chad Ford, from Miami, could make this an interesting training camp battle.

If Brackett or Ford impresses enough, Reid may even keep three tight ends on the roster.

70 catches & 1000 yards each?

That's retarded even for Eckel.

ice grillin you

the 1000 yards each i can see because vick can exploit defenses with these guys downfield....but they are to small and vick is to short for him to consistently hit them in short range patters...which is what boosts reception numbers

Any of you guys go to the Eagles Flight Night event? I was thinking of bringing the kid, but I wasn't sure if it was fun or not....

Glad I asked...thanks. It was either that or a preseason game.

Size has nothing to do with it.  It's the system and after 15 years of Reid you'd think Eckel would recognize that.  Besides, if anyone is going to catch 70 balls for a thousand, it's Shady.  Second on the list would be Celek.  I could see Maclin or Pimp catching 70 but not both.  Just not gonna happen.  There's only so many catches to go around and we know how Andy loves getting his fullback and 5th receiver some touches.

wow....when you have a midget qb and small wr's size is a huge factor when needing to thread the ball into short timing and crossing routes

Yup.  Gotta agree with igy smalls on this one.  Thing is though, is that it's not far fetched to think that Jackson and Maclin couldn't both eclipse 1000 yds in the same season.  But both of them doing it on 70+ catches is.  Jackson's career high is 63.  He doesn't need to get the ball a lot in order to rack up yards.  Last year was his "down year" and he had 58 catches in 15 games (3.8 rpg avg).  And his career average is 3.8 rpg as well.  Don't expect that to jump dramatically.

It's preparation and technique more than height.

Brees is roughly the same height as Vick and tipped balls are not as big a problem for him, although he still has issues.

Bottom line is if the line keeps Vick clean he's deadly but he's never going to be Aaron Rogers out there.

Much of it also comes down to if DeSean and his new found McNabbesque leadership is again willing to go over the middle and make catches. He stopped doing this after he got his brain scrambled but it is a cornerstone to the WCO and what Reid likes to do.That is where he's going to reach his 70/1000 and he could do it if he's willing and (aslo Vick) stays healthy.
