length of contract is pretty meaningless in the nfl...its all about the guaranteed money and how the contract is written

Not only that but Peters will be 31 when the 2013 season starts. Over 30 recovering from a torn achilles might not be a good match. Bell at the very least provides a safety net at Tackle, presently they have nobody who would be considered an every day starter. I'm surprised by the 5 year deal but they have the cap space and did what was necessary to fill a huge hole.

yeah, they had minimal negotiating leverage here.  He says what he wants and if anybody else is interested they don't' have much choice.

i disagree....the guy is coming off injury not that good to begin with and because of this as a LT which is arguably the most important position on the field other than QB was still on the market

were the eagles in a powerful position certainly not...but people werent exactly knocking this guys door down and i dont think the eagles particularly cared that much if they didnt get him...after all they let him initially walk out of novacare last week without a deal

dont pay attention to the five years...it has nothing to do with him possibly being jp's replacement or means they eagles paid a lot...if anything the eagles proposed that to spread out whatever SB money bell got
