You're the one who is concerned.  Me, on the other hand... not so much, Sunny.

SunMo

you are overreacting to our reacting, was my point there.

no one is saying they are doomed, although you keep claiming that
I'm the Anti-Christ. You got me in a vendetta kind of mood.

I was mocking it, actually, not overreacting to it.

Whatever, though.

Ray Diddy broke down Matthews performance on sportsrise. As we all know the Steelers guards and center were getting open field blocks on the lbs because of the wide 9. He showed Matthews getting dominated and the safeties and corners having to make plays.

MLBs are successful for a few reasons, some are just physical, can shed a block at the point of attack and make a play, some are quick enough and instinctive enough to avoid blocks so that they're in a position to make tackles. Some are just great at seeing the play develop, filling holes and making the tackle. Matthews is none of the above. Because he's so inept at reading plays he was biting on play action fakes and letting the TE run free unchecked. Throw Chaney back in the middle, at least he can defend the run. He didn't look good on the outside.

I'd also like to throw out there that Tatupu is still out there. I'm not his biggest fan but he's light years better than what's already here and it doesn't look like he's getting a lot of offers. Maybe get him in here on a 1 year deal.

Tatupu is still out there for a reason. It makes me wonder why no one has even sniffed around him yet.

SD

He was released because he wouldn't restructure his deal with the Seahawks...meaning he probably wants too much money. He's obviously not getting it and the closer to the season we get the more leverage he loses. Bring him in here on a one year deal. He plays the MIKE and is sadly better than our other LBs.

PoopyfaceMcGee

He is not very good anymore. That's the real problem. Even the skins opted not to make a deal.

SD

The Skins LBs are much better than the Eagles. In fact, is there any teams LBs you wouldn't take over the Eagles? I'm not saying he's a stud, what I am saying is that he's an upgrade over Casey Matthews.

People are suggesting his knees are shot and he had an operation in the off-season.

SD

So how does it hurt bringing him in for a physical? They did that with Smith and it looks like he will play.

Drunkmasterflex

I'd rather see them bring in Kirk Morrison.

QuoteCasey Matthews is the starter at middle linebacker, and while that seems to have some Eagles fans in a state of panic, the coaches aren't worried at all. They want the fourth-round draft pick to get as many reps as possible running the defense. Clearly, Matthews didn't play a great game on Thursday -- nobody did on defense, or on offense for that matter -- but just as obviously the coaches aren't down on him. They know where Matthews is at the moment and they know where they hope he is in a matter of weeks and months.
