In a country where 80% of the people live in cities and their suburbs, why the hell do we give a shtein about the Iowa straw poll?  The poll is conducted for a miniscule portion of the voting population...only Iowans, only Republicans, and of those who bother to participate, almost all are religious fanatics.  And the big winner this time around?  Suprise surprise, a home schooling religious whacko mother who got an overwhelming 29%.

So in other words, what these people think is effectively meaningless from the national perspective. Except the news channels all think this is news.

What's stopping Buffett from paying more in taxes?  If he's so gung ho about paying down the deficit he should stop yapping and cut a check to the U.S. Treasury.  And he should convince his Bridge partners to do the same.

Otherwise he can save it because 99.9999999999999999999999% of the rest of us are barely trying to survive instead of worrying about how to pay down a 14.6 trillion dollar tab.

Sending a check to the US government isn't a fix to the problem of the skewed tax code.

perhaps you could explain sd's reasons for "disliking" it as well since you seem to be so in tune with other peoples minds

also, lol at Obama being a socialist, and the health care plan being socialist :-D

Socialism implies taking from the wealthy and distributing it to everyone. The Health Care Bill is going to force people to give their money to health care companies. It's more of an Plutocracy than socialism. The rich getting richer.

Any tax code not a flat tax is skewed.

It absolutely forces those with greater means to subsidize the healthcare of those with less means, that is classic re-distribution of wealth.

Skewed in the right direction. Any 1st world country with a working democracy uses a progressive tax code because that's what works.

Annnnd the money is going right from the people getting the health care, back into the pockets of the rich. Nice try though.

Pacman arrested again.

Stillupfront

By racism you imply a prejudiced attitude toward another due to their skin color, ethnicity, religion or sexual orientation, etc. I was merely stating a fact when it came to Pacman. And, I referred to him as a stillupfront, I was not censored.

Or people of average means who have invested wisely. Healthcare stocks have had a great return historically.

By the way, what is "rich"?

Why would I care what other "progressive" democracies are doing? If you can't grasp why a flat tax rate is fair, there is no hope for you.

Munson

Those of "average means" often don't have extra disposable income to invest in anything. Those of "average means" have enough money to pay their bills and maybe provide general middle class "luxuries" to their families(Cable TV, Internet, Cell phone)

But of course you are treating medical care as an investment, and not as something there to help out your fellow American citizens.

So you are admitting I am right. Those of average means when forced to subsidize those of lesser means don't have the disposable income to create or at least attempt to create wealth.

I am talking about investing in publicly traded health care companies. I made a pile of cash on Pharmas back in the 90's.

I posted the Onion article about Bachmann on FB and got this response:

QuoteThe lady is a tax attorney, congresswoman, mother to 5, married more than 30 years to the same man and raised more than 20 foster kids. What exactly about her drives you nuts? That she thinks the country should stop borrowing so much money and spending money it doesn't have?

There you have it. The requirements to run the country.

I am no Bachman fan but really, how does being a community organizer prepare you to be POTUS? How much does the job Community Organizer pay? Where do you apply for this job?

Who of average means is being forced to subsidize those of lesser means?
The only reason why that might be happening is pointed out in the Buffet article....the tax code has been skewed so that those paying the highest marginal rates are not the wealthy, but those in the middle. A flat tax would not fix that problem.

Those of average means (44K median household income in the US) have no money to invest because they are paying their bills and supporting their families. I'm one of those people in the "average means" territory. Try raising a child on 44K and then having money left over to invest.....Yeah, doesn't happen.
