Dude wants #12 - Lurie doesn't want him to have it (per Eskin) - only way he wears it is if Randall approves.

Make him pick a new #.

lol so jeffy is blocking this but he wont put a ring of honor up in his farging stadium

either go big or go home you god damn red sox fan
Zero hour, Michael. It's the end of the line. I'm the firstborn. I'm sick of playing second fiddle. I'm always third in line for everything. I'm tired of finishing fourth. Being the fifth wheel. There are six things I'm mad about, and I'm taking over.

I agree because leaving it up to Randall puts him in an awkward position and he always wants to be the good guy. I'm not even a huge Randall fan but he was an icon and is deserving of his number not going to average players.

SD

Randall hasn't been an Eagle for 15 years, who cares what he wants.

I mean, one of my all time favorite Eagles, but it's been 15 friggen years already and Ronnie Brown is already wearing Westbrook's number and he's only been gone for a few years.

ice grillin you

all due respect to 36 he is not even close to being on randalls level as far as an all time eagle icon

i wouldnt be against giving out 12 to some young stud qb but a guy who was a giant 48 hrs ago who might be an eagle for all of 8  games aint gettin 12 if i own the eagles....good for lurie if this is all true...next step?....get your funholey wife to approve a switch back to the jersey randall wore
i can take a phrase thats rarely heard...flip it....now its a daily word

igy gettin it done like warrick

im the board pharmacist....always one step above yous

The only difference between Westbrook and Randall is one was a QB. Westbrook deserves just as much respect as Randall does. It's just a freaking number. I don't think jersey numbers in football should be retired or considered sacred. I mean, there are only so many numbers and a lot of players on the roster, it's not like another sport where you can retire every jersey because you only field a team of 20.

They're never switching back, we're stuck with the diarrhea green. I don't know how anyone - especially a chick - can look at their current shade of green and think "Oh yeah, that looks much better than this iconic kelly green"

im not talking about respect or how good of a player each one was on paper...im talking about iconic status...like an eagles mount rushmore....randall was a black qb in the 80's who was at the time unlike any other qb to ever play the game...i think people forget he won an nfl mvp

randall is an nfl icon who played with the eagles....westbrook was a great eagle

I don't think any Eagle player should wear the number 12, or 36. I'm all for retiring numbers and think Lurie should have an Eagles hof or something like that. Farg Steve Smith. He can find another number.

As far as the signing of Smith, I like it. He's better than Avant or Cooper. I've heard a lot of conflicting reports about his recovery, we'll just have to wait and see I guess.

SD

My guess is he's playing by mid October, maybe by game 6.

I usually disagree with your backwards self-loathing nonsense but in this instance you nailed it on the head.

Giving out the 12 to anyone is the ultimate in stupidity even if Randall doesn't care.  We care.  He was a God to those of us who saw him live and in person.

36 should be shelved for maybe two years and then eased back in. Not a total retirement but let it gather some dust awhile.

12 has been unofficially retired and needs to be made official.

SD

They should unretire all of these numbers immediately:
    15 Steve Van Buren, HB/S, 1944–51
    40 Tom Brookshier, DB, 1953–61
    44 Pete Retzlaff, RB/WR/TE, 1956–66
    60 Chuck Bednarik, C/LB, 1949–62
    70 Al Wistert, OT, 1943–51
    92 Reggie White, DE, 1985–92
    99 Jerome Brown, DT, 1987–91

BTW... Off topic and all but John Kruk getting enshrined in the Wall of Fame is flat-out stupid.

He's my favorite all-time Phillie and even I think a guy who played for five years doesn't belong anywhere near Schmidt, Whitey & Chuck Klein.  Sorry, Johnny.

Kurk is just the latest in a series of dubious picks, in my opinion.

People got caught up in the emotion of Vukovich's death - he's on the wall of fame for being either a) a long time coach, or b) a career .161 hitter who played a total of 163 games with the Phillies.

To me, Darren Daulton's inclusion is questionable as well.  Yeah, yeah, yeah, he was the leader of the 1993 team, but he only managed to play a full season (even calling a full season 100+ games) four times with the Phils (1997 would have been the fifth if he hadn't been traded to the Marlins).  He hit over 20 homers twice, knocked in over 100 twice - next highest for the Phils was 57 (63 in season split with the Marlins) - and is a career .245 hitter.
