Here's a good question: Would you rather give up Cosart or Worley in a deal? Cosart has the bigger upside, but Worley helps you this year. I think Cosart should have more value but there's a part of me that wants them to deal Worley before the rest of the league catches onto him.

I get that Worley's general value is not as high as his current performance would seem to indicate, but isn't that exactly the reason you DON'T trade him right now? This might be the best year of his career... Try to use it to win now, no?

Unless they somehow get Blanton or Oswalt fully healthy by October they're going to eventually need Worley.  I don't see any way the guy is going to continue on pitching the way he has but you never know.

The Phillies have more than enough to get a legit bat & a good bullpen arm.  Would they have to raid the system to do it?  Yeah, probably.  But aren't you guys always the ones who insist the window is just about shut for this team?  If it's just about over for the "core" why not say farg it and just go for it balls to the wall?

i totally agree with balls to the wall....id farging trade dom in the right deal...i dont give a farg about three years from now...but the fact is the system is not strong enough to acquire a top notch trade deadline bat and arm unless dom brown is included....all their minor league talent is at the low levels and even the stuff there isnt over the top good....they have a lot of good prospects but no great ones....i LOL when people say they wouldnt trade jarred cosart...i would trade cosart for beltran or pence in a heartbeat

and that answers sd's question as far as who id trade first worley or cosart....its cosart and its not even close....the farging guy hasnt made one pitch at even reading yet

If the Mets say give us Worley and a prospect for Beltran do you do it or do you try to get them to take Cosart? I don't think the Phillies trade Worley because of what you wrote above. I think they do what they did with Happ which is get a good season out of him, let him pitch next season then move him if need be.

He doesn't have great stuff, his fastball has no movement. Once teams catch onto him he's going to be exposed. That's why if he has value right now you might want to consider moving him instead of Cosart.

you guys are assuming people want worley....i dont think theres a big market for him...teams like the mets want to replenish their farm system....they have enough number four or five starters already

worley is a sweetener in a deal not the ceneterpiece if hes moved at all which is unlikely

I'm not going to pretend to know how good Cosart may or may not be, but I do know he means jack shtein to the Phils winning the Series this year. Unfortunately, I don't think Brown means much more, despite being a starter. If he's going to be a star, it's not in 2011.

Worley is pretty much the only name I've heard mentioned that bothers me significantly. It's a pity they won't really know if Oswalt is truly good-to-go until after the trade deadline.

MDS

worley will be a wild card luxury in the playoffs

bottom line is you dont want him in the game. not a knock against him its just hes only coming in if someone gets shelled, hurt or its an extra inning game.

and again if they are going big or going home then get matt kemp and stop dicking around.
Zero hour, Michael. It's the end of the line. I'm the firstborn. I'm sick of playing second fiddle. I'm always third in line for everything. I'm tired of finishing fourth. Being the fifth wheel. There are six things I'm mad about, and I'm taking over.

I don't mind moving minor league pieces, but you can't keep depleting the farm system year after year and expect to stay on top. The core of this team was built in the minors.

Wonder if the Mets would take Aumont, Ramirez, and Gilles.

beltran supposedly only has 7 NL teams that he woudl go to.  the mets aren't getting dick for him
I'm the Anti-Christ. You got me in a vendetta kind of mood.

No one here can pretend to know anything about Cosart one way or the other, but all of the scouts consistently say he has legit #1 or 2 stuff.  Which means, given the number of other relatively highly regarded players in the Phillies lower minors, I think I can hold onto him if given the option for Beltran.  I'd ship him out for Pence, but I think you can get Beltran for less than Cosart+.
