It is......selecting all the individual messages often distracts me from watching tv in my bedroom.

Gmail has had push notification forever through Google sync (Active Sync).  You set up the account under Microsoft Exchange just like your work email.

I just tried this with my gmail account and sent myself a test email and didn't notice anything different.  What's the difference setting up under ME as opposed to just adding a new gmail account?

Google archives e-mail while Yahoo, for instance, allows for immediate & permanent deletion.    I actually love the e-mail function on my iPhone because I can go through them in ten minutes at the office from as many accounts as I set up.

Sgt PSN

That's a great answer if I asked for the difference between gmail and yahoo.  But I didn't.

If you set it up in the Mail app as a GMail account, it doesn't actually push emails to you. It just checks often.

If you set it up in the Mail app as an Exchange account with server m.google.com, it instantaneously pushes emails to you.

Sgt PSN

That's it?  The mail app checks as often as every 15 minutes where ME will deliver the message to your phone once it's received.  Meh...not a big enough selling point for me as I don't need instant email updates on my phone so I'll be deleting the ME account now.

Diomedes

Why don't you do that, buddy.

Oh, I will.  But first I'm going to use that account to email you a pic of my beanbag.  Then I'll delete it.  That way, it'll be a minimum of 15 minutes until I receive your reply.

alright, so I'm sticking with the Blackberry for now, UNTIL the 4S comes out in the late summer/early fall. Reason being, I am still under warranty for this Bold and they're sending me a refurbished one (the one I have is having some issues). But I will change over as soon as the next one comes out.

The question I have, is if you set it up the second way, doesn't it do something to change your email address?
"Oh, yeah. They'll still boo. They have to. They're born to boo. Just now, they'll only boo with two Os instead of like four." - Larry Andersen

Sgt PSN

No.  When I set up my gmail on ME yesterday, I sent myself a test message from my work email and it showed up on my phone in less than 30 seconds.  Setting up through gmail instead of ME only allows you to adjust the settings so that your phone checks for new messages every 15 minutes (at most).  So if you need instantaneous email, then setting it up through the ME is the way to go.

You have an iPad, right?  Check it out there and see what you think.  It'll be the exact same thing on the iPhone.
