that whole Briere/Hartnell /Leino line is their best line again

they were playing like shtein during the year, but cranked it up for the playoffs

I still really dislike the way Briere plays and his stupid lazy Napoleonic penalties, but jesus christ he is unmatched around the goal and he knows how to turn it on when it matters.

I don't know what JVR's stats look like for the series, but in my eyes he was the best player on the ice between these two. It really is like night and day from where he was last year. It's great to see Leino waking up too. That goal of his last night was boner inducing.

people are mixing up best and most improved...dont get me wrong he was really good but his massive improvment is causing people to think he was way better than he was....hes to one dimensional right now to ever be a best player in a series....he doesnt pass or take faceoffs or shut down the opposition or anything like that...

doesnt mean his goals werent welcomed but people need to settle down and recognize giroux richards and obviously briere who were fabulous and shouldnt be put behind jvr just because that is expected of them

grioux in particular was just outstanding in the series....he led the team in pts...led forwards in +/- and ice time (by like two minutes) was physical as shtein leading the team in hits...killed penalties very well and was dominant on faceoffs

dont sleep on timonen either...he was norris trophy level good...made every right play looked totally lidstrom like and for the most part made up for being prongerless
i can take a phrase thats rarely heard...flip it....now its a daily word

igy gettin it done like warrick

leino and richards both upped their game significantly...especially richards who was a dog for much of the year but played incredibly tough this series....he sacrificed all his offense and really took out connellys line...the entire line i believe has three even strength pts in the seven games...he was so physical

I would normally disagree with this on principle, but you're mostly right (especially about Giroux). The improvement JVR's shown is absolutely effecting my opinion. Having said that, I still think I saw that he led the series in scoring chances. He was dangerous throughout and had more 'wow' moments than any other player.

I missed the handshake obviously.  Anyone know if Briere gave them the stink palm?

he did have a ridiculous amount of shots...but thats his one dimension i was talking about...he drives to the net takes feeds from others and tries to score...thats it thats the list...and he was very good at it in the series but if you wanna be considered the best player then you better be brett hull or some shtein...or at least lead your own team in goals

the last thing i want this to sound like is a criticism of jvr....he was active as hell and he scored in four of the seven games...he was a key player i just dont think he was the best player by any stretch of the imagination and ive heard more than one person say this and im not even referring to this board...darren pang was on the radio yesterday saying it and im thinking to myself isnt this guy paid to watch these games?

So what's the word on Carter? "Lower body injury" I assume. Anything else?

DID LEIGHTON GO AWOL?

Lost amid the euphoria of the Flyers Game 7 victory over Buffalo Tuesday was the fact that Michael Leighton, starter in Game 6 of this series, was not in the building to celebrate with his teammates.

Where he was is a matter that is being kept pretty hush-hush by the Flyers.

However one team source told the Daily TImes tonight that Leighton was very upset with himself after his Game 6 performance and didn't show up for the morning practice Tuesday.

According to the source, the Flyers tried to contact him early Tuesday but couldn't reach him. They finally got through to him later on Tuesday.

It is unclear what conversation took place with Leighton - either with coach Peter Laviolette or G.M. Paul Holmgren, but Leighton was not with the team in any capacity Tuesday.

A second Flyers source, who said he had no knowledge of Leighton's temporary disappearance, said that Leighton was hurting - both physically and emotionally after Game 6.

Flyers president Peter Luukko denied this report saying he hadn't heard anything about Leighton at all and that he would know if something that serious had taken place.

General manager Paul Holmgren answered an email outlining this story and completely denied it with one brief response, saying the story is "absolutely not true."

We'll look into this to see if we can get more information.

I know igs is picking any Flyer opponent to win in 5, but I keep going back and forth on which of the 3 possibilities is the best matchup.  Boston has better goaltending and defense, won 3 of 4 in the regular season and wants revenge for last year, Tampa Bay has a shaky defense and goaltending but they also won 3 of 4 and their power play is lethal, and even though the Flyers won 4 of 6 against Pittsburgh, they're gonna be tough too even without Crosby and Malkin...

rjs246

I want no part of Tampa. I'd take Pittsburgh or Boston WAY before Tampa.

now we know why easy should only post "things" he knows....not try and break down shtein

if the flyers play tampa they better find out where leighton is and possibly a couple other goalies because the flyers are gonna give up a lot of goals in that series...they match up horribly with them
