Wow, I had no idea that this subject was so in depth and that there was even any doubt as to or not not vaccinate. I don't have kids yet so I've never paid attention to this. I always assumed getting shots was part of the deal because I got mine as a kid.

PG, I hear you, but proactive is largely impossible in the bacterial/viral world.  All we as a heatlh industry (not just Pharma, but govt and academia) can do is try to keep up with the new mutations making old therapies useless.  It's almost impossible to predict how things will mutate, and i can happen in a blink of an eye.

A guy a few years ago (don't remember who) wanted to look at crossover resistance.  He took methacillin resistant strep and plated it with E coli (what grows in your colon).  They aren't remotely the same, yet within 18h all the E coli was methacillin resistant.

Vaccinations are the best proactive measure you can take.  Adding 6 different antigens into 1 shot doesn't increase the concentration of preservatives, and the concentrations that are used have been extensively studied.  While IGY is ridiculous with his mda cow bullshtein, the flu vaccine by necessity is put together pretty quickly, and attenuated (heat inactivated) virus is the best antigen.  The seizure risk therefore is unavoidable.  I never get the flu shot, cause I hate medicine (go figure).  But my kids followed the standard vaccination protocol, for better or worse, I think better.

But please don't make it sound like the field isn't trying.  Of course, if you wanted us to try harder the gov't should stop trying to assfarg us.

SD, you're misguided here.

Yes myself and the entire AAP is misguided...but your groundbreaking research is correct. lol

its that the recommended CDC schedule is bad. Its NEVER been proven to be okay to pump that much virus/preservative into an infant 8 lbs.

Has it ever proven to be harmful?

And for arguments sake my daughter possibly had an adverse effect to a vaccination and ran a 105 degree temperature for almost a week. Maybe it was caused by the vaccination, or maybe it wasn't... the Doctor said she also had a bad ear infection and a viral infection. What you fail to understand is a child running a fever that high is not the same as a grown up. The 104-105 range is very common for infants believe it or not.

PhillyGirl

LOL at the AAP vs. me comment. Really? You're going to go there?

Back in the 60s and 70s, the AAP said formula was better for an infant than breastmilk. BETTER than. Things change, the AAP learns.

I, for one, would not like to learn 20 years down the road, that putting that many vaccines into my babies at such a young age all at once, caused permanent damage.

And I know all about fevers and their commonality. My daughter did not just have a fever and she had NO other viral infection. Even though the pediatrician's response to my calling him TWO hours after the vaccine was, "She must have caught something int he office". Yes...that something that she caught just infected her in less than 2 hours  from leaving your office. Gotcha. A second pedi did admit it was a vaccine injury and as a result, our research into delayed and selective vaccinations started. It wasn't "just" a 105 fever in an 8 week old either.

My kids are/will be vaccinated....just not on some horrendous schedule.

Well, those other parents are stupid. If they are vaccinating their kids and believe in vaccinating, why would they be afraid of their kids being infected?

LOL, our old pediatrician "fired" us because we refused to give Maddie her Prevnar vaccine, which turns out to be the one she reacted so violently towards at 2 months old. Who in the hell would ever give that same shot to their kid after that? So the conversation went like this:

Pedi: Well, if she doesn't get caught up on the last 3 doses of it, we're not going to be able to treat her anymore. We cannot treat unvaccinated children.
Me: I don't understand why not? Its one vaccine, she has had the majority of the others.
Pedi: She could catch meningitis if she doesn't get it...and die. She could catch it right in the waiting room here!
Me: Um, how could she catch it in your waiting room?
Pedi: From another patient!
Me: Um, didn't you just tell me that you don't treat unvaccinated children?
Pedi: Yes, well, the vaccines aren't 100% effective.
Me: You're not exactly selling your point 100% effectively either. Goodbye.

That was not a joke, That was exactly the conversation.

So yes, parents/doctors are stupid. If your child isn't 100% vaxed on schedule, you are the bad guy trying to kill their kid/patient.

And you'll be the one to teach them, apparently.

No offense - as I'm sure that you've done your research on the subject, but I'll take a board of Pediatricians recommendations over yours.

None of this would be an issue if more parents gave their kids bourbon or vodka. Alcohol kills germs, numbs their gums when teething and when used in the correct dosage, puts them to sleep practically on command so you can practice making another one.

Oh, and it's way cheaper that a trip to the doc.

Booze shot>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>flu shot.
