you can use your iphone for a mobile hotspot right now without paying 15 a month for it if you jailbreak it.

the other is with att and t-mobile being the only ones who have the same kind of network is if you unlocked it to acquire another provider.. you only had one other choice (t-mobile).  i'm assuming now this gives you the option of getting a verizon cdma iphone, and being able to unlock it and put it on a really cheap provider like metropcs if you wanted.  obviously the advantage with sticking with verizon will be the coverage.. and being able to use the data and phone at the same time on the new network.

I like multitasking as much as the next guy, but I'm assuming that you douches who play on your phones while talking on your phones make even fewer friends than I.

Talking and accessing email and Internet is important to me so I hope they keep AT&T at work.

I thought McDonald's had wifi in every restaurant?

This.

I have to pull up spreadsheets or emails while I'm on a work call from my Blackberry constantly. So, its pretty much necessary to be able to do both at the same time.

I'm just talking about the iphone update in the article you posted vs tethering....2 totally different things, right?

no, actually if your iphone becomes a hotspot you'll have the abilty to sync (tether) your ipad to your iphones 3G network. thats basically what tethering is--your just combining networks.

it looks like you'll be good to go with verizon and getting it free as a new setting in your iphone, but the rumored problem is with att---and allowing it for free.

Sgt PSN

Ok, so this isn't really anything "new" for AT&T subscribers, because they already allow us to do that (at a cost), this is basically just more good news for Verizon users.

Neither of you are this important.

Verizon should wait for the 4gs phones coming out this spring.

Heard Verizon has better service than AT&T, but I haven't had an issue for years now with AT&T. I'm curious to see what the difference is in price though...

Every time I read this thread I'm reminded of how little I know about what this thing can do.   It's farging freaky, actually.

I'm slowly learning but I can't wait to really get into the apps more.

And I just figured out the video capabilities too which are ridiculous.

Sgt PSN

The apps are what make the phone so great and they range from stupid shtein like the coin flip app to language translation and currency conversions (which came in quite handy while I was in Peru) to business and productivity apps.  The iphone and ipad are seriously one of the most awesome things invented during my lifetime.
