Three-time world surfing champion Andy Irons of Kauai died today in a hotel room in Texas, family and friends confirmed.
His death is being investigated as a possible overdose of methodone, according to the Tarrant County Medical Examiner's Office. An autopsy is scheduled for tomorrow but the exact cause of death may require a toxicology test, which could take 60 to 90 days to complete.
Irons had competed briefly this past weekend at a World Championship Tour contest in Puerto Rico where his family said today that he was suffering from dengue fever.

Was anyone else a little surprised to learn that Anderson was only 76?  He looked that old when he was still managing. I seriously thought he was upwards of 90.

As absurd as it sounds now, it was this guy who finally disproved a 60 odd year old claim that the Cottingley photographs captured garden fairies.  

A polymath who was variously a skilled pianist, linguist, chemist, inventor and editor, Mr. Crawley died on Oct. 29, at 83, at his home in Westcliff-on-Sea, England.
