I think they're going to trounce the Packers.

I know I'm the only person here who feels like this team is much better than they're being given credit for, but I'll stand by that until proven wrong.

saying they will 'trounce' the packers is setting a new bar for homerism...i think they can win but its not like they are playing the chiefs...even if you think the eagles are going to the superbowl the packers are a good team who probably wont get trounced all year by anyone

it's not homerism at all.  it may be in whatever bizarro world you live in where actual fans can be hopeful and optimistic about their team's chances, though.

what's hilarious is no matter what your outlook is you always go negative and that's fine.  if by some chance the eagles do play better than anyone expects we can always count on you to do a 180 and conjure up excuses as to why your prognostications were wrong.

Green Bay's Defense is a push w/the Eagles D... Jenkins, Matthews, Woodson = Cole, Jordan?, Samuel the rest of the guys are not consistently special... Packer's have a more polished QB, and more depth at the skill positions. Iggs usually start slow... GB 31-17 PHI

yes unrealistic expectations of your team doing well is the textbook definition of homerism

FWIW Ray Diddy thinks these guys are going to the Super Bowl, but I don't like their defense.  They're already missing Al Harris and Atari Bigby too, so you should be able to beat them deep...

I think this game will turn out to be the forecaster of what we can expect to see this season. I think the Birds are going to have some exciting plays with Mack, DJack, and Shady. I think the defense will show flashes and Kolb will be efficient and show signs of what this offense sorely needed while McNabb was here. On the other side of the coin, there is going to be bone-headed stuff, like wide-open receivers missed, missed blocking assignments, cross-ups in the secondary, etc. - all of the things you would expect with a young team.

The Pack takes the W for sure, but the Eagles show their talent, and hopefully show they aren't far from putting it all together at some point early in the season. I'll go with 31-24.

Hard to think the Eagles win this one. It's not like they're traditionally world-beaters in the first game of the season. Anything could happen, but I certainly wouldn't put money on them winning this one.

That being said, I think they're much better than the Eagles.

Week one is tough to predict. Think there will be plenty of pressure on Kolb, mentally. He'll need to step it up. I hope we see a balanced offense more than anything. Not that I watched much of preseason but what I saw was no real change in calling the plays. Unless Reid's got a reason chip up his sleeve. The broken record goes on if there is no change in the offense. Kolb ain't going to be as good as a over the hill McNabb his first season so why use him the same. We shall see!
