* Rival teams are waiting for the Mariners to indicate that they're willing to deal Cliff Lee. One GM says it will be "a win for the Mariners" if and when they do trade Lee, since Jack Zduriencik will probably obtain better prospects than the ones he gave up for the left-hander in December.

it would be hard to do worse...ill be interested to see the BA rankings at the end of the season because as of right now i dont think any of the three guys the phillies got even crack their top ten prospects...which is just inexcusable when the reason you gave for the trade was to restock your minor league system

I forget where I read this and who said it, maybe Sporting News or SI, but they classified the Cliff Lee Sweepstakes as:

The Phillies held a Cliff Lee fire-sale because Amaro was told to boot him if he wanted Halladay and because Ruben was afraid of the cupboards being bare in the minors.

The Mariners are about to hold a Cliff Lee Auction where they're under no pressure to deal him and can take the highest offer or keep him and still grab two draft picks.

Amaro is a lousy GM, I hate all the love he gets. Signing Ibanez to a 3 year deal was retarded, the Cliff Lee trade was absurd, Baes blows. What has he really done to improve the team?

it's more a mixed bag.  he also made the first Lee trade, and traded for Halladay.  polanco was a good signing.  but you counter that out with the 2nd Lee trade, Ibanez and Baez contracts and greg dobbs still being alive.
