Never tried Kong, my dog eats when he wants, and I just keep the bowl full. But I'll say this, I haven't found anything indestructable for him. those 18-20 inch rawhide bones? Gone in 5 minutes, and mean gone. Sumbitch has jaws of steel and a gut of iron.

They're indestructible toys...

False. My gigantor of a mutt has destroyed a couple of them but then again she eats electonics and farts napalm so maybe it isn't fair to compare.

When I had my pitbulls I bought them one and they destroyed it within 1 day. Their policy used to be you mail them the destroyed pieces and they'd send you a new one. I went through 4 or 5 before I finally said farg it.

Actually, I take back the gut of iron part. I changed his food one time, from Pedigree to Dog Chow and he had ass explosion.

Speaking of dog food....

Several years ago my vet recommended putting my dog on a more "natural" diet and suggested I try Nature's Variety.  They have canned and dry food along with frozen meat patties and a few other products that you can use to feed your pet.  My dog farging loved the Instinct products as they are entirely natural, made up of meat and vegetables.  Most common dog foods have wheat and other grains serving as the main ingredient which is not part of a dog's natural, instinctive diet.

The dry food isn't cheap, but not overly expensive either.  About $50 for a 40lb bag, which would usually last my dog about a month...give or take.  The canned food is a little on the pricey side and I would buy that and add about 1/4 can of food per day with his dry chow.  The frozen food is expensive and was something I gave to him when I had a few bucks to spare and I'd use it more like a treat rather than just a meal.

The company is a good company though and takes their product pretty seriously.  There is currently a recall on some of their products, but it was a self inflicted recall that they initiated once they realized there was a problem.  In the 4 years or so I used them though I never had a problem with it.

I started my dog on this stuff later in his life and after about a week I noticed an increase in his energy and activity, not to mention that his dookies were healthy dookies and I can't recall him having any serious mudd butt after he made the switch.  Anyway, take it for what it's worth.  If nothing else, there's other companies out there who make all natural dog food that would be worth checking out.  The stuff is so much better for your dog than Purina or Science Diet or any other common brand.

we switched over to Innova a few months back, instant change in his energy level.  We used science diet before, but we found out its mostly filler and not at all healthy

I literally cannot imagine wanting my dog to have MORE energy. She's a sprinter and all she does when she's inside is move. She gets enough exercise that she doesn't drive me 100% insane with her constant movement, only like 45% insane.  It isn't like it used to be when she was a puppy and needed to be run constantly or she would pace and whine. When she's outside she sprints in circles and when I take her running for miles she shows no sign of fatigue until the 3+ mile mark and even then the only sign of fatigue is taking a second shtein. If she had more energy I would have to have her put down on general principle.
Is rjs gonna have to choke a bitch?

Never heard of it, but just did a quick google and it's pretty much the same......all natural, no filler diet.  You're a good dog owner when you're not feeding them 10lbs of sand.

What breed, Rusty?

I know the pain, i just want him to keep going for a few years.  We're getting to that point where goldens start getting cancer, and i'm trying to give him as much good shtein as i can to keep him somewhat healthy.

Sarge, i'm not a good dog owner clearly when i'm drinking all day on the beach playing Bocce ball.  Took him to the beach this past weekend, and he definitely had no clue how close to death he was last year.  Dumb farger was happy as hell just digging holes behind the truck and swimming in the ocean.  Threw his toy so far out in the ocean that it took him at least 2.5 mins to get out there and get back to shore.

I've used this with all kinds of dogs over the years. Kona is the fourth dog to try and crack it:

We used his kong, its huge, so it nearly takes up his whole bowl, but its working.  He's eating slower, and despite being a pretty smart dog, he just leaves it in there.  He takes it out after his food is done though, to play with it.  Thanks for the help guys, anythign i can do to keep this farger alive for 10 more years will make my wife happy

Glad to hear it. After a while you can take the Kong out, and he should eat at the new pace. If it's a really big one, pick him up a medium so you can get more food in there.

I feed my dog Purina Pro Plan or something. It's cheap, she eats it all, she ain't dead. Good enough for me. She never had "people" food in her life, which is farging sweet, she doesn't beg at all, because she can't put two and two together, although she gets all antsy when I cook bacon. I go farging Nazi on people when they are like, "What a cut dog! Here have some of my pork/beef/chicken/cake".

That dog looks like it she's ready to go! Grab that thing and throw it and toenails will scream on the linoleum.

He's managed to not eat too much sand lately, and we started feeding him the high fiber canned food after being on the beach to speed up the cleansing process.  He went swimming with me for 35 minutes yesterday, and probably an hour saturday.  He seems to have mastered the art of riding waves at this point, and learned how to tread water waiting for you to throw his toy.

Chuggie wants to farg my dog.  /end thread

Seriously though, he loves the beach more than i do, he's great to swim with, he understands not to run into you and cut you up in the water.  His medical bills last year are up there with the best money i've ever spent.
