There aren't really a lot of off the field amenities needed. This isn't the Olympics or World Cup with hundreds of thousands or millions coming to the city for an event that lasts for weeks. Maybe the NFL is trying to turn it into that, but it's simply not succeeding. The Super Bowl is a TV event that lasts for a few hours on one Sunday afternoon and evening. They had it in Detroit and Jacksonville recently and did it really affect anything other than some ESPN bloggers saying "wow this town's weather really sucks, I'd rather be in Miami"? Who cares? Maybe seats would go for a bit less in Kansas City or Buffalo, but the game would still sell out and the 99% of us who watch it at parties or at home wouldn't see a difference at all.

I think there's something nice about how giving every city in the league its time in the spotlight (which promotes the league and shows support for all their teams), showing off the newer stadiums around the league, and basically not splitting the league up into "cool cities the league likes to promote" and "uncool cities the league is saddled with". That's something the MLB struggles with, but like I said I think they do it right with the siting of the All-Star Game.

its not a charity

nobody wants to go to a superbowl in detroit
Zero hour, Michael. It's the end of the line. I'm the firstborn. I'm sick of playing second fiddle. I'm always third in line for everything. I'm tired of finishing fourth. Being the fifth wheel. There are six things I'm mad about, and I'm taking over.

weird. super bowl xl looked sold out to me.

MDS

you know what i mean

you live in friggin pittsburgh do you think people want to go there for a superbowl

its gonna sell out no matter where it is but it should be rotated around cities that are attractive. thats what its for. its a big corporate circle jerk. its a made for tv event. and something tells me kansas city, buffalo and charlotte dont scream attractive.

The driving factor has always been gametime weather, not overall attractiveness. If it came down to what cities are attractive to tourists and corporate elites, there would have 10 Super Bowls in NY before they played any in Tampa, which is basically Charlotte + 10 degrees.

MDS

who gives a shtein about the weather

the rams were amazing on turf, played the 02 superbowl in a dome agains the pats...and lost
the colts are a dome team, cant play in the elements, played a 07 superbowl in the rain against a defense first bears team...and won

the elements are what they are. the best team will win. who cares where the game is.

yeah the game is irrelevant...basically you have media day some press conferences and the football game...approx 10 out of 168 hrs of sb week will take place in the dirty jerz...and thats even if all the media related stuff takes place in east rutherford...whos to say media day isnt at msg or something
i can take a phrase thats rarely heard...flip it....now its a daily word

igy gettin it done like warrick

im the board pharmacist....always one step above yous

Sgt PSN

I don't think there's any doubt that media day would take place at MSG provided there aren't any scheduling conflicts with NBA/NCAA.  But given the 4 years notice everyone has, I'm sure the NFL will make sure that day is clear on MSG's calendar.

MDS

there is a 0% chance media day is in jersey

farg MSG...most of the SB pre-events will be at the new Nets home in Brooklyn. Fact.

MDS

not that i know anything about ny but wouldnt msg be a better sell/pr venue/more convenient?

not that i would be complaining about the russian nets owner involving himself in superbowl weekend

im not saying north jerz is as good as brooklyn because it isnt but if youre gonna have things in brooklyn you might as well just do it at the meadowlands...what the farg is the point of going to ny and not having everything but the game take place in manhattan
