the signing of Sharper, especially with the surgery, would be a complete slap in the face to the whole Dawkins scenerio.

If the Dawkins thing was a mistake on the part of the Eagles, this is the closest they can come to undoing that mistake. It wouldn't be a slap in the face as much as it would be admitting that they farged up.

Which is why it won't happen.

Mad-Lad

Signing Sharper would be idiotic. The team needs to get better. It doesn't need a one year band aid.

DH

He's better than what they have back there now, and honestly its not even debatable. Unless they have plans to draft a safety in Round 1, I don't know how you don't sign him.

But back to Mawae...good point Jay; I hadn't thought about that. Still though, he's another guy who has been productive everywhere he has been, been a team leader and just like Sharper, the dude is a warrior. With Jackson still not fully recovered from the injury by the time camp breaks, unless they take Pouncey in Round 1, I don't see how they can't bring him in.

So in summary, if they plan on drafting Earl Thomas, sign Mawae. If they plan on drafting Pouncey, then sign Sharper. It's that simple.

SunMo

why would they bring in a 30+ year old free agent?  this team isn't in win-now mode anyway.  those signings would go against what they did all off-season.

To be fair they've been getting rid of older players who THEY think aren't as good as what they have or what they're going to get in the draft or via trade.  Since Sharper is much better than anyone they have at either safety position, it's not a stretch to think they'd pick him up.

Plus there's the mentor aspect if they decided to go with Mays in the first round.  He could do worse than have a guy like Darren Sharper showing him the ropes.

This conversation is bringing back my disgust for the Dawkins thing yet again.

Zero hour, Michael. It's the end of the line. I'm the firstborn. I'm sick of playing second fiddle. I'm always third in line for everything. I'm tired of finishing fourth. Being the fifth wheel. There are six things I'm mad about, and I'm taking over.
