Rome

It won't be eight years but it could be close in terms of average dollars per year.

He'll be 32 after next season, so say he asked for 6 years and 150 million.  Would anyone really be surprised at that?

ice grillin you

i dont think he gets 150 million but 150 is not close to 184 anyway

QuoteMariners pitcher Cliff Lee has left the team and flown back to Seattle. He arrived in Seattle at 2:10 Pacific time. We don't know why yet and are trying to find out, though GM Jack Zduriencik would only say that this is not a personal matter.

When I asked Zduriencik whether this had to do with his suspension and a possible appeal hearing, or perhaps a medical reason, he would only say: "I can't comment at this time.''

If it was a medical reason, Zduriencik would have to get clearance from Lee under federal HIPPA statutes in order to comment.

It's entirely possible this is just a follow-up exam on his recent foot surgery, so I don't want to alarm anybody by putting this out there. But Lee was seen by plenty of people getting on a plane today and I just wanted you to know he is no longer in camp.

QuoteThat makes it possible Lee won't be ready when the season starts April 5 at Oakland.

uh, he's suspended the first 5 games anyway so does it really matter if he's not ready for opening day?

Don Ho

Quotedespite his history of abdominal strains

??? Did we know about this last year?  That has got to be brutal for a pitcher.

yes.  it was actually talked about in the media quite a bit after the trade happened last year.  i remember reading several articles from different outlets talking about how his career was sidetracked due to repeated stints on the dl to deal with it, including a few years ago when he missed the first 6 weeks of the season because of it.
