that sucks sb.  why dogs live such short lives and people live longer is beyond me.  dogs would rule the world far better than we do.

i posted probably close to 6 months ago that my nearly 14 yr old pooch was nearing the end.  farger is still alive.  he's almost blind so sometimes he walks into furniture but other than that, he's still doing fairly well.  my main concern with him now is his back legs.  he's starting to have a hard time getting up and occasionally will get his back legs crisscrossed while walking.    i plan on heading to philly for about 10 days over xmas and really don't want to put him in a kennel at this point because he requires so much more care and attention than just 1 year ago.  tough spot for me because i don't want to put him down just so i can go away for a couple of weeks but at the same time, i don't see him lasting that long in a kennel either.  farging sucks.

here's a pic of him......probably about 8 or 9 years ago when he was all pup and no geriatric

damn, Sarge you thought he was done a while ago.  Our first golden used to drink Manhattans, he would try to knock them over whenever he saw them so he could drink em.  Kauai used to enjoy the cheeba with me.

you haven't even begun to remember how much of a pain in the ass it is

she'll be chewing for a year....take a good look around your house and consider this:  she's gonna destroy shtein you never thought she'd get

Digging up an old one. Kona is a year now, and I just picked her up from the spay clinic. They gave her Valium, and she's quite stoned. Laying in the middle of the kitchen motionless for the last two hours with her eyes open.

She's over the chewing bit, but she beat up the kitchen pretty good. Bases of cabinets and molding around the windows (sills mostly). She also has a thing for small electronics.

I got a new rescue that looks just this guy. My 17 year old sheppard does very well with back end on "Metacam".  Expensive but worth it. :)

weird timing on this thread popping back up.

it's a little too late for me to be putting him on any new meds or anything.  the last couple of weeks have been a real struggle for him.  he's been getting disoriented very easily, walking in circles, staring at walls and stuff.  he's also been losing his balance and his hind legs give out on him too often for me to let him keep going.  i called the vet this morning and made an appt tomorrow to have him put down.  hardest farging phone call i've ever made in my life.

i've got less than 24 hrs left with a pup that's been with me for over 14 years.   :'(

farg his diet.  i'm grilling him a steak for dinner tonight.

and fill his bowl up with a cold Stella--go out in style

I have a teddy bear.  I luv him.

When we finally had to put our family dog down, my mom fed him chocolate chip cookies the whole time.  Entemmans, I think.

"What's the chocolate gonna do, kill him?" she later said.

Grilled him up a nice steak this morning. Spent a few hours laying with him and took him in around noon.  This was by far the worst and most difficult thing I've ever had to do. He was such a great dog and I miss him terribly.

Sorry man, I feel you. Had something similar happen to one of my past dogs, one of the worst things I've ever seen. If it was that bad, putting him down was for the best.

Diomedes

Sorry bro.  If it's any consolation, you'll die too some day, and then you won't miss him as bad.

yeah, it was definitely time to put him down.  he was a pretty amazing dog though and was there with me through the good and the bad....marriage, kids being born, divorce, moving from place to place.  over the years friends and girl friends have come and gone but he was the one constant through it all.  he's easily the best friend i've ever had and i'm glad i got to spend so much time with him.  he really did make life more enjoyable.

i love dogs and i know i'll eventually get another one.  but he was my first one (we had a family dog when i was a kid but she was more of my sister's dog than mine) so it's hitting me pretty hard right now.  i was 19 when i got him so i've basically had him my entire adult life.

this sucks.

this made me laugh.  thanks.

Diomedes

Yes, it sucks.

But on balance, it's worth it.

He was a good boy, and had a happy life.

Sorry to hear it Sarge, but he's up there humping all the legs he can now
