Reggie brown traded to Tampa Bay for a 6th rounder in 2011.

i never understood his fall

usually its because you dont play ball with andy and joe and they start cutting your playing time as to punish you for not accepting their lowball offer. but didnt reggie sign a long term deal for what was probably below market value? and then got passed on the depth chart by hank baskett?

maybe he started hanging out with AI but couldnt shrug it off before game time
Zero hour, Michael. It's the end of the line. I'm the firstborn. I'm sick of playing second fiddle. I'm always third in line for everything. I'm tired of finishing fourth. Being the fifth wheel. There are six things I'm mad about, and I'm taking over.

Remember back in September when the Eagles surprised us all by keeping seven wide receivers after they made final cuts?

Well, let's just say things change quickly in the NFL. Only four of the seven remain now that the team has announced that it's traded Reggie Brown to the Bucs for an undisclosed draft pick in 2011. Multiple outlets are reporting that the Eagles will get a sixth-rounder in return.

The Birds' top three receivers are set for years to come: DeSean Jackson, Jeremy Maclin and Jason Avant, who signed a new deal with the team earlier today.

Beyond that though, there are roster spots available. Kevin Curtis is due $3.4M with a $1M roster bonus on June 1. He only saw action in three regular-season games in 2009. After returning from injury to face the 49ers in Week 15, Curtis was inactive for the final two weeks of the regular season and the playoffs. Plus he turns 32 in July.

The only other receivers on the roster are Dobson Collins, who the team signed in January after he spent most of last season on the practice squad, and Jordan Norwood, the Penn State product, who saw action in one game last season.

If they add a veteran, that player would have to be comfortable knowing he is going to be no more than the fourth wide receiver. That player could be Curtis at a lesser price.

As we mentioned Sunday, Aaron Wilson of the National Football Post reports that the Eagles are one of the teams showing interest in Hank Baskett.

Or the Eagles could address the position in the draft. Last year, they selected Brandon Gibson in the sixth round, and he impressed everyone at training camp. Gibson was traded to the Rams, where he caught 34 balls for 348 yards. If they could find someone like him again, they'd be in good shape.

Other notes:

* According to Jim Wyatt of The Tennessean, Will Witherspoon will visit with the Titans Tuesday. The Eagles released Witherspoon on Friday, but in a radio interview on Friday, Andy Reid said there's "a chance" the team could look into bringing him back at a lesser price.

See ya, Reggie! Or maybe not, if your tenure on the Bucs is anything like your tenure on the Eagles.

Munson

I could see them bringing Hank back. Reggie's gone and Curtis probably won't be here either.

perhaps you could explain sd's reasons for "disliking" it as well since you seem to be so in tune with other peoples minds

Eagaholic

good job getting a pick for Reggie Brown. I'd like to see Baskett back, good STer for April to work with too.

Munson

I didn't understand why they let him go in the first place, unless they really thought that long ago they could get a draft pick for Brown during the offseason. But in all other aspects, Baskett was a better option because he was a better STer, which is what you want out of your #4 guy.

Sgt PSN

It was basically a money decision last year. Would have cost them $$ to cut brown nut not baskett.  So he got the ax

him and mcnabb didnt get along

and i dont think banner inc had anything to do with his fall...mcnabb stopped throwing him the ball and he isnt very good to begin with...they hung onto him thru two pathetic years...in the end tho his demise had more to do with the eagles finally getting some talent on the roster at his position...once picks were successfully used on pimp and mack he was basically cooked

brown was horribly miscast as a #1 when in reality he's a solid #3 or #4 receiver.

best of luck in tampa, though.

phillycrew

Anyone heard anything on Curtis?  He may get cut since he is due over $4 million but he isn't a bad #3-4.  I think they can get by with Maclin, Jackson, Avant, Curtis and special teamer.  No need to spend a draft pick or Baskett.  Really need to focus on defense in this draft.

rjs246

Kevin Curtis as a #4 or fill-in player is a nice thing to have. The dude isn't a world beater, but I would feel better with him on the roster since I feel like he can competently step in if any of the top three guys get hurt.
Is rjs gonna have to choke a bitch?

Let them eat bootstraps.

smeags

he actually wasnt a bad #2 when we had a real #1. bottom line is like with fraudie mitchell he ends up being a wasted pick. thankfully the last two wr picks look to be gems.

phillies will be under 500 this year...book it

ice grillin you

get rid of curtis...they dont need a #4 wr making that kind of money...its the perfect spot to work in a younger player and use the funds elsewhere...

hes the eagles version of randel el this offseason...veteran whos basically done and making bank...bye bye
