i'm honestly a bit surprised it took her 4 years to do something newsworthy again.  what a waste of space.

For the second time in two years Bank of America just summarily canceled my debit card as a 'precaution' against being stolen.

The first time it was because I paid for a couple of cab rides in New York City while traveling for business. The card got canceled and I got stranded at the airport in Boston when I got home.

This time it didn't even have anything to do with any purchase I made, they just found out that some people with similar card numbers had their numbers stolen and canceled my card without telling me. Bye bye Bank of America. Hello Wachovia/Wells Fargo.

farg B of A.

That completely sucks. It's not only the hassle but it also probably affects your credit rating. I had a Wachovia card and they sold off that  part of the business to BOA. I knew nothing about it, I just got the card in the mail one day with 20 pages of fine print saying I was swicthed and how awesome it was, even though the terms were the same.

I dumped my B of A card a long time ago when they took my account with no annual fees and wanted to start charging $30/yr...

i'm sure you'll find something to bitch about with a new bank too.  i travel alot for work and move every few years so having a national bank makes sense for me but at the same time, small local banks tend to be much better for day to day use.  plenty of atm's, usually have smaller/no fees for using another bank's atm and just better all around customer service.

so what i do is keep an account open with a large, nat'l bank but maintain a minimum balance and everything to keep the account open and avoid extra fees.  every time i move i open an account at a local bank for my day to day stuff.  if i'm travelling then i just go online and do an external transfer and pump a few bucks into the nat'l account so i can access the cash if need be without paying the fees.

It doesn't hurt your credit rating in terms of FICO scores...maybe as a secondary method of analyzing your financial good standing if you are doing business with the same bank but credit scores should be fine.

Similar to utility bills and cell phone bills (at least sprint), you can be late all you want and it won't hit your FICO scores...but at the same time if you are applying for a home loan and you have little to no tradelines...they can use your cell phone bills and utility bills as alternate tradelines and use the history on those to help you qualify.

In other words...mechalecha-hi-mechahighnee-ho!

Work for the gov't= check
Travels a lot=check
Keeps multiple accounts for quick access to cash=check
