No hostility, but I just didn't get what was hilarious about her character.  Yeah, she had the cute little businesswoman thing going and she showed she could let loose a little bit when the three of them crashed the conference, but her plan to fire people via Skype or whatever isn't realistic and got dumped anyway and her fake crying was bad.  Plus the movie was 2 hours of boredom (and a really long commercial for airlines, rental cars and hotels)...

especially kendrick...she was farging hilarious

if by "farging hilarious" you mean a college grad b*tch who deserved to be dumped and whose idea wasn't realistic, then yeah

up in the air was a very well put together film that captured a love story--with some quick wit dropped here and there

but if youre sitting there in the theater slapping your knee, spitting soda out of your nose with laughter we need to have a sit-down

jesus the skype thing wasnt meant to be realistic...it was a metaphor for how the world has changed into corporate big business hell...where people no longer matter only profits

easy you might be better off sticking with the me myself and irenes of the world

of course the subject matter was different but in terms of comedy it was basically juno for the older set

cause I'm not familiar with any of that.....just a corporate merger, surviving 4 rounds of layoffs in the past 13 months and possibly losing our office, that's all...

I think Clooney is an excellent actor. Oh Brother Were Art Thou is one of my favorites. If you like bluegrass, the soundtrack is great too.

The main song on there was done by Dan Tyminski, one of the members of Allison Krauss's band.

'Man of Constant Sorrow' gets played a lot at the Moose lodge on the internet jukebox. It's a great song.

There is a very interesting story behind another of my favorites from that soundtrack. 'Po Lazarus', the song sang by the chain gang at the opening of the movie, was sung by James Carter and the Prisoners, while actually working on a chain gang when inprisoned at the Missippi state penitentiary, four decades before the movie ever came out. The guy was just an old black dude who liked to sing and never really did so professionally.

Another favorite of mine is the song, Lonesome Valley, sung by The Fairfield Four, who are well known as the best African American gospel singers ever.  When I turn up the volume on my cd player at home, bass singer Rufus Carrethers makes the speaker turn sideways, I shtein you not.

It amazes me that music can be made like that without a single instrument.

The sad part is IGY will have no idea why that was a great post.

As for the biggest winners of "Can't stand his movies anymore because he's a giant douche in real life", how are Tom Cruise and Mel Gibson not at the top of that list?

perhaps you could explain sd's reasons for "disliking" it as well since you seem to be so in tune with other peoples minds

I am streaming Zombie (1979) right now and I just finished watching the greatest scene in cinematic history. A zombie attacks a shark and they do battle underwater for like two minutes. The actor literally latches on to the underside of the shark and bites it over and over again. Amazing.

Also, this movie is campy as shtein and sort of enjoyable in its goofiness but not actually all that good.
Is rjs gonna have to choke a bitch?

Quote from: King Cole on February 11, 2010, 04:14:09 PMUp in the Air: good movie. If you hate Clooney, you probably won't like this movie, but it is a lot better than your typical romantic comedy. Vera Farmiga is really hot, and I'm really starting to like her as an actress. One of the better 2009 movies I've seen.

This was a comedy?  I didn't laugh once.

Up in the Air -- it wasn't the worst movie ever, but it's one of those one-and-done movies in terms of watching it again, and basically nothing changes after sitting there for 2 hours. zzzzz

The movie on a whole wasn't some hilarious movie. It was more interesting than anything else IMO. But most romantic comedies aren't true comedies. They just file them under that genre. I usually go in expecting more drama and less comedy and if I get some good laughs then it will be a pleasant surprise. But I enjoyed the movie and the study of the correlation between Clooney and Farmiga's characters.

it wasnt by any means a romantic comedy

just because a movie has a realtionship in it doesnt make it romantic

Sgt PSN

are you saying that the relationship between the pizza delivery guy and the naked sorority girls with no cash isn't romantic?

The BIGSTUD

The website I looked up info on the movie had it listed under romantic comedy. Maybe it was wrong. I consider it more of a dramedy.
